Guillermo del Toro's InSane revived
Pan's Labyrinth director's action game finds new mystery developer after being canceled by THQ.
THQ may have dropped filmmaker Guillermo del Toro's action game InSane, but the project has found a new developer. The Pan's Labyrinth director told IGN that he had shopped the game around to numerous developers and it is now back on track.
"We were going to go to a lot of developers after THQ, but it seems like we’re going to be developing it after the first meeting we had," he said. "I can't disclose where it was, but we went to a great developer on the first meeting and it seems that they’re picking it up because they love the package."
In October, del Toro was asked which studio would be a "dream developer" for InSane, and he responded with Half-Life and Left 4 Dead company Valve. He said he is a "big fan" of the outfit.
Concerning how far along in development InSane is, del Toro said at the time of its cancellation at THQ in August, the game was in "good shape." The world, the creatures, the levels, and the story were all in place, he said.
Despite that, InSane is not likely to ship anytime soon.
"We were two years away. The development span of a game like this is three years. We put a good year and a half into it and we have the universe quite figured out, but we are now going to take that and start doing all the leg work with coding it, creating the engine, and starting to test it," he said. "It’s going to take a good two years of modeling and rendering and creating the environments and all of that. The basic tenants of the game is that it’s created, but now we’re going to need to start actually making it."
InSane was also previously revealed to be a trilogy. Del Toro would not say if this was still the case, noting that he is more concerned with making a "great game" than planning anything out that far.
