Guacamelee! dev’s next game mixes Mega Man, Infinity Blade, and Punch Out!!

Drinkbox Studios bringing Severed to mobile in 2015, but also considering other platforms.

Guacamelee! developer Drinkbox Studios’ next game will be Severed, a gesture-based combat game for mobile platforms.

As you can see in the concept video, you’ll play as a one-armed warrior exploring an open world. You’ll battle enemies by swiping the screen to execute different attacks and spells, and gain their powers by attaching their severed body parts to yourself. As Drinkbox told Destructoid, Severed’s open world and boss structure is inspired by Mega Man, while its combat is a mix Infinity Blade and Punch Out!!.

Drinkbox also said that it’s considering bringing Severed to any platform where its gesture controls could work, including the PlayStation Vita, 3DS, Wii U, and even PlayStation Move, Kinect, and Project Morpheus.

Drinkbox plans to release Severed in 2015. If you’re unfamiliar with Guacamelee!, check out our review.

Don't destroy the potential, bring it to real gaming platforms.

From one of the most appraised games on PSN to going mobile.. Kinda naff :/

Hopefully it'll provide them with lots of income though. Mo' money could equal bigger projects, and they've obviously got talent :)

Smartglass would be better than Kinect. I'd rather have a tactile touchscreen than wave my hands at a camera.

I don't see how the game loses it's appeal because it will be mobile. Hell, they said they could bring it to the Vita, 3DS, Wii U, Kinect (I can't see that being fun), Move and maybe Morpheus. If it does come to these platforms will you still complain?

I got Guacamelee! for free on PS+ a few months ago and it was really fun but felt more at home on the Vita. I wouldn't expect any less from Severed.

Severed's torso looks like Nightmare's from later SoulCalibur games.

The keyboard controls are actually better for combat.

I finished the entire game AND El Infierno with a keyboard.
