GTA 5 for Xbox One and PS4 Will Blow You Away, Take-Two Says

CEO Strauss Zelnick says, "Nothing but the very best will satisfy Rockstar."

The upcoming Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of open-world action game Grand Theft Auto V will blow you away, according to Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive That's because, CEO Strauss Zelnick says in a new interview, "nothing but the very best will satisfy [developer] Rockstar Games."

"They want to blow consumers away," Zelnick told MCV. "Whatever the expectation is, they want to exceed it. When you see GTA V on next-gen, I want you to tell me whether it is or isn't better than your expectation. I can guarantee it will be better."

"How can you buy a next-gen console and not want to play GTA on it?" -- Strauss Zelnick

GTA V has already shipped 34 million copies on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 alone, and it was the best-selling game of 2013. But Zelnick isn't satisfied just yet. "One way to look at it is that 34 million copies have been sold, but there's 7 billion people on Earth," he said. "So we have over 6.9 billion people left to address."

Zelnick went on to say that it's almost a sure-thing that GTA V will sell well when it comes to Xbox One and PS4. "GTA is the standard bearer in the industry," he said. "How can you buy a next-gen console and not want to play GTA on it?"

GTA V for Xbox One and PS4 (and PC, too) promises better visuals, more densely populated worlds, and increased draw distances, among other improvements over the existing Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. Zelnick also stressed that the new versions of GTA V aren't just quick cash-ins.

"We really are driven by our passion for the business," he said. "I know it sounds hard to believe from capitalists, which we also are, but what keeps us up at night and gets us here early in the morning and makes us excited, is that we pride ourselves on making the best interactive entertainment in the business."

"We are not trying to deliver the minimum acceptable quality and monetize it," he added. "We are trying to delight consumers and monetize it."

GTA V launches this fall for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, though a specific release date has not yet been announced. Your existing Xbox 360 or PS3 Grand Theft Auto Online characters will carry forward, regardless of which new platform you play on.

Sorry but denser populations and longer draw distances doesn't make stale gameplay any better. It's the same GTA as the previous ones on a different map and too much focus on heists. Once again with few buildings to enter, no interaction with NPC's outside of killing or fighting them and very little substance outside the main mission. The series peaked with San Andreas but it would be nice to take a note from Skyrim regarding A.I. for NPC's, interactions and side missions. Killing zombie NPC's, shooting rocket launchers or jumping between unrealistic handling vehicles gets pretty darn old.

Graphics are far from making a mediocre sequel already played into anything fresh or more fun.

I can't wait.  I love GTA V, I was so amazed by what Rockstar did with those aged consoles.

Yay! Let's pay to play the same game - again!

TBH we've done it with movies for years, purchasing VHS, then DVD, Bluray and soon 4k. It only makes sense $ony and Micro$oft do the same for games. Smaller dev man hours = more profit.

Why are devs and publishers so wary of saying "___ on PC will blow you away." Why the shameless promotion of Sony and MS's consoles all the time and no love the world's most neutral, powerful platform?

Glad it's coming to PC, at any rate. Just confused why no one (other than a select few) ever openly praise the PC version of their game.

so we dont need our gta 5 xbox360/ps3 discs at all for our characters to be imported to the xb1/ps4 version correct?

Now imagine Red Dead Redemption on this current GTA engine, on PC and nextgen?

Would that be awesome or what?

PS: nextgen = currentgen, since it is out there for a while now

After Red Dead Redemption, how could I stay mad at these guys for so long? They've bought my trust for fall.

If they don't add additional content like new story missions or even dlc and new multi-player content,I won't buy it,because in that case it's just Gta 5 with better graphics.

As long as PC has mod support, no bitchin from me. Really want a police mod.... on Los Santos... ugh it'd be awesome!

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that this article told us absolutely nothing new about the game? Nothing.

"Oh, yeah, we're also releasing for PC, but it will run like ass and it'll be capped at 30 FPS and you'll need to download 4 Windows DRM programs that haven't been updated since 2004 to launch the game, and we're also going to include a Trojan virus in the download..."

That is a great saying. I am fine with the latter. Capitalizing off of me with a great product? Have at it; I will gladly reciprocate business for great products. But this phrase may turn around and haunt you if you what you pawn off on the community is an obvious port that has many day 1 issues.

@Jimminyfixit
I see your point about easy profit for Sony & Microsoft however,  I missed out on this one when I sold my last gen system to pre-order a PS4.  Can't wait to play GTA5 later this year.  Just finished the last of us remastered yesterday on ps4 and will be getting diablo 3 reaper of souls later today.  All of these games have been out for a while and were on last gen consoles but are a new game experience to me on ps4.

@Jimminyfixit No one is making you buy the XBOne/PS4/PC version to play it again. Just play it again on your XB360/PS3. Don't you dare spend $60 for what you already have if you want to play it again! Don't you dare, I say.

Don't quote me on this but no, your online character is attached to your ROCKSTAR SCOCIAL CLUB account . You shouldn't need your disk to carry on on current gen .

@mizifih You do know that GTV 5 is on the same game engine as Red Dead Redemption & GTA 4, right?....all they did was optimization it for ps4, xbox one, and pc...go look it up on wikipedia..

@mizifih Hunggggggggh. RDR is the only thing I am genuinely upset about missing out on now that my Xbox 360 died on me. It likely will never get ported which is a shame. It could really use some better hardware loving.

bdiddytampa

@mizifih yeah I like GTA and all, but it never really grabbed me like Red Dead did.  Redemption is on the short list of my favorite games of all time.  I really want to play through it again, but I am holding out.. hoping we will one day get a PC release :-/ I know its a slim chance, but I am still hoping :-)

@pgl163 I'd be willing to bet that all the DLC released up to this point will be included (with the possible exception of the special holiday stuff--Christmas and Independence Day)

@DARKCHOAS It's why many youtubers have to get their permission to record their games or else rockstar with copy right strike them and the channel could possibly get shut down sucks but its life.

@brocklee5000 Technologically speaking, they are both last gen. All hardware components inside each console range from 2-3 years old. Embarrassing, really.

@aegis_kleais I feel pretty confident it won't feel like a simple port.  I agree with you on the money part, I don't mind parting with cash if someone provides a top quality product!

@biggamer614 Really!? ... Just checked it out. Even Rockstar Games Presents: Table Tennis for the Wii used it... ROFLOL. Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) actually debuted with that game. Go figure... Nice info bro (or sis, who knows these days, right!?), thanks. It just makes me hate'em a little bit, since RDR runs on the very same engine as Max Paine and they didn't ported it to PC... Why, God?? WHYYYY!?!?!?

Well... Max Paine also runs on it, so... they tweaked it good before, they probably tweaked even more now, for sure. GTA IV was a bad port, to be honest. Today we can kinda run it fast and all, but it was not that gentle on (kinda) older system.

One thing I missed on Wikipedia is a version history, like RAGE 1, RAGE 2, like other famous engines does, Dice and CryTek do that.

I just hope they do better this time, and I think they did. But Ubisoft is here to prove that a showcase of a game means "bull feces" (and there's no comparison between these companies, the name Ubisoft means "stratagem" to me). So... let's wait, that's all we can do until we see more. To be honest and the game keep up with all this hype they created themselves.

RDR on PC already, Rockstar! Please, let me throw all my money on you!!!

mizifih
mizifih

@bdiddytampa @mizifih I know, but one can dream, right!? And if you think about it, they probably would sell tons again. Take GTA V as an exemple, its been only what? A year? And people are already in line and pre-ordering like crazy!

Technologically speaking, all technology is dated upon its release...

The "Current Gen" rockets breaking the mesosphere right now are using 10-15 year old components that were "Innovative" when the projects began...

Welcome to the scientific world!

johnborn315

@oldtobie I would like them to use it as they would get better drawing distances with it. But they probably don't have enough time to change their engine enough to integrate it. They probably don't care too.

oldtobie

@johnborn315 @oldtobie Okay, I retract my statement.  You've redeemed yourself.

I'm just sick of the "u should put umbra 3 in it" noobs everywhere.
