While not a surprise, the game's release date move from December 3 to December 28 in Japan and a "January-March" window here in the States, is about as much of a surprise as the flap over this week's steamy Monday Night Football intro with Terrell Owens and Nicollette Sheridan.

For a while, I was optimistic that GT4 might make it's pre-holiday release this year. With this news, however, I'm looking ahead to next year, where the big early battle of 2005 might be the near head-to-head release of GT4 and Microsoft's Forza Motorsport, which recently ran into a similar delay. To speculate even further, perhaps Sony should simply delay GT4 even further and re-introduce the online component, which was recently dropped from the title.

Who knows what will happen at this point? For now, it's clear: we won't get any answers until 2005.
