Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain two different games

Konami confirms Ground Zeroes will be prologue to Phantom Pain; platforms not specified.

Hideo Kojima yesterday officially announced Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, suggesting the game was The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes combined.

As it turns out (via Siliconera), they are two distinct titles.

"Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are two separate games," a Konami representative told GameSpot today. "Ground Zeroes will actually be a prologue to The Phantom Pain, and that's all we can share at this time."

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, though platforms for Ground Zeroes have not been specified. It is also unclear if both games will be bundled in the same package or offered as two different releases. Release dates also have not been divulged.

Longtime Snake and Big Boss voice actor David Hayter has not been asked to reprise his role in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

Hey guys am i here the only one seeing the big difference in terms of graphics between the phanton pain and ground zeroes? Ground zeroes looks a lot better speacially in effect, pay attention to textures and fire effects...i can believe that the phanton pain runs on ps3 and x360, but sorry i cant agree that ground zeroes is for this generation. That reminded me of the frist killzone 2 for ps3, that was incredibly amazing but the game released was a shit compared to that. Lets wait and see what comes out

There's absolutely no reason why these games could not be released on PC.  PCs nowadays are more than capable of running this game. PCs could have easily run Metal Gear Solid 4 back then, and probably on the maxed settings now, even at 2560x1600.  What is wrong with making a PC version of these games? An open world Metal Gear Solid game, and no confirmation of a PC release?

I don't mind them being released separately, Kojima said that they will both be open world games. Ground zeroes will be an introduction into that open world with (I am assuming) a little less story and smaller missions like in Peace Walker  to give you a chance to explore the world and focus on game play. Then when Phantom Pains comes out Kojima said it will open up the current world into a much bigger world, and (again I'm assuming) it will be the more story driven portion with a huge open world that gives you much more freedom than previous games did in what missions you will do and how you will do them. I think it's an awesome new idea for an MGS game. I'm not usually a fan of open world games but if anyone can do it right it's Kojima.

when Kojima tell hes going to reinvent the series i hope hes talking about taking a more realistic aproach cutscenes and no more over the top cutscenes like Snake jumping over a rocket in a backflip or Raiden breaking the laws of physics.

Ever since they announced the title I've been convinced "Ground Zeroes" refers to the birth of Solid and Liquid.  This along with EVA, zero, etc. would be the center storyline of the Ground zeroes while Phantom Pain fast forwards 9 years to find a young solid snake sent on a sneaking mission by the very system that big boss is out to destroy.  Poor solid snake was always just a pawn by the patriots while Big Boss, Solidus and Liquid knew what the hell was going on.

they've confirmed that both games are coming out in a single package. They should update this.

i really dont see how this game will run and look this good on xbox 360 and ps3. that means it will be out this year. i really doubt it will be on current gen consoles.

Maybe they mean like, Ground Zeroes is a prologue in the sense that it's like the Tanker chapter of MGS2.

Are they actually making two games?

Has anybody else noticed the one common theme running through the Phantom Pain trailers? Ishmael, a missing limb, a quest for vengeance (against Cypher)... and a giant whale. The fake studio name wasn't a coincidence.

Perhaps the 'taboo' Kojima has been talking about is mental illness - Big Boss' obssession with The Boss and Cypher could push him over the edge to the madman of Outer Heaven. Instead of being killed by his own harpoon however, he's killed by his own DNA, Solid Snake...

Two games in development at once.... I hope they can handle it, and that they make a game they feel good about releasing.

Kojima said during the tec demo that both ground zero and the phantom pain is one game..they both add up and create MGS 5, its all one game

Hayter himself has been a meta-character inside the mgs mythos, officially. Perhaps Hayter is going to start voicing him differently. Lol!

@jpfortes ya thats because the phantom pain is not yet at the last stages of graphics still kojima working on the game graphs

@jpfortes Ground zeroes gameplay was running on PC and probably the demo for The Phantom Pain was on consoles.

@luizferrarezzi
Snake back flipping over a rocket was in The Twin Snakes, the Gamecube remake. Hideo Kojima didn't direct the scenes in the remake, some Japanese action movie director did (his name escapes me, look it up). In the original MGS Snake's abilities were more realistic.

Raiden is just Raiden, not much I can say about that.

TC_Squared
TC_Squared

@luizferrarezzi Snake jumping over a rocket wasn't Hideo Kojima's work. Twin Snakes' cutscenes were greatly altered from those of the original. Snake jumping over the rocket didn't happen in Kojima's version of MGS1.

GrayF0X786

Snake jumping over a rocket? i hope you are not confusing that joke of a game Silicon Knights made in an effort to remake MGS1 with an actual game from Hideo Kojima.

jas_skywalker

@luizferrarezzi The over the top cutscenes are what define MGS. The whole point of a game is to do stuff you don't normally see.

@Towkuttaa Solid and Liquid were born in 1972.  Peace Walker takes place in 1974, they would already be born.  There was never any piece of history that said Snake was a child soldier.  Although there was never any history that Big Boss lost an arm either.  I would say that Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain tell the tale of Big Boss finding out about LET, and him setting up Outer Heaven hopefully for a remake of the 8bit games.

@twisted_outlaw Kojima has been adamant about the Fox Engine being extremely scalable- I'm willing to bet that Ground Zeroes will be a downloadable prologue for 360/PS3 as well as PS4/Durango and The Phantom Pain will likely ONLY be on the next gen consoles a few years later.

luizferrarezzi
luizferrarezzi

@twisted_outlaw it cant be next either. they are showing a pc version but everything is low poly like the games on xbox em ps3 used to be so the console versions will have less effects em worst textures but will be pretty close to this.

wumpscutnut

@twisted_outlaw The demo is being shown on PC. It is coming out for 360 and PS3, that's confirmed. It's also going to be on PC which is the version I will be buying.

Revengeance was made by Platinum Games and isn't really connected to the other games since it's a different genre.

Printul_Noptii

@FallenOneX yeah dont worry its Kojimas baby he knows how to connect stories and make top notch games, none of his MG titles ever let down so why starting now ? :D

CarsAndGuitarsx

@hydrobeast Nope. It's BIG BOSS aka Naked Snake. Both of these games takes place after MGS3. The order goes something like this:

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

So no Solid Snake in this game dude, sorry.

Wouldn't that be a trip? If all Hayter's tweets and post saying he will be ill hearing someone else play solid snake was all an elaborate rouse.

@GrayF0X786 Still a better game than the original. It gets tons of hate, but people seem to conveniently forget how over the top all the other mgs have been.

I'd say it's been worse and mgs5 is about to go all out on crazy. I'm just glad I don't have a stick up my ass when it comes to original vs remake debates.

luizferrarezzi
luizferrarezzi

@jas_skywalker @luizferrarezzi the whole gaming point is about things you dont normaly see but a androind holding a friking tanker is impossible and silly .and I'm pretty sure this is what hes going to change in the universe. its  going to be less action movie from the 90's and more like Nolan movies. Kojima is always using movies as reference. now its the time to leave the over the top things to the rising franchise.

michaelsgreat

@SolidSnake20031 @Towkuttaa
He's definitely setting up the last iteration FOXHOUND. Young Mantis, an Ocelot that actually looks like a gunslinger etc. It's gonna be an epic ride...

@pez2k_
It was actually a direct sequel to Devil May Cry and is set in that universe. Raiden is Dante's ancestor, they mention all of this in the pamphlet.

no, it is not a better game then the original.

@luizferrarezzi @AceJakk @jas_skywalker Guys...... just one thing Metal Gear is what it is now, because it's a freaking great franchise, sometimes is realistic and sometimes not, and I love my Metal Gear dose that way, it's a good formula (just ask anyone), it works for me and for every single person who knows what a Metal Gear game implies.

AceJakk
AceJakk

@luizferrarezzi @jas_skywalker getting rid of the impossible and silly... and making it more like Nolan movies... wait, how can you even type that and expect it to make sense - Nolan movies are impossible and silly.
