Green Day: Rock Band setlist revealed

Rhythm game's selection of 47 songs pulls heavily from Dookie, American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown; other albums each represented by three tracks or less.

by

The launch of Green Day: Rock Band is just under two months away, and gamers looking forward to it finally know which of the modern punk band's songs they'll be able to reenact. The game's full setlist of 47 songs, along with information on new venues, was revealed in an Entertainment Weekly report today.

Better luck next time, die-hard Shenanigans fans.

The game will lean heavily on Green Day's two most recent albums--2004's American Idiot and last year's 21st Century Breakdown--as well as the band's 1994 breakout hit Dookie. In fact, the game will have all of the songs from those three albums, minus the hidden 15th song from Dookie, "All By Myself," and the six songs from 21st Century Breakdown already available as downloadable content for the Rock Band platform.

Filling out the game are three tracks each from 1995's Insomniac and 1997's Nimrod, with just a pair of songs from 2000's Warning. The band's early 1990's efforts from Lookout! Records, Kerplunk and 39/Smooth go unrepresented, as does the B-side compilation Shenanigans.

Green Day: Rock Band won't just introduce the band's songs to Harmonix and MTV Games' rhythm franchise; it will also include three venues specific to the band. A fictional amalgamation of house parties and hole-in-the-walls called "The Warehouse" will re-create the band's venues in the early years, while the outdoor National Bowl in Milton Keyes, England, will be packed full of people during the band's more popular years. The third and final new venue in the game is The Fox Theater in the band's backyard of Oakland, California, where it treated hometown fans to the entirety of 21st Century Breakdown just before the album's release.

Green Day: Rock Band will arrive June 8 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. In the United States, the standard editions will retail for $60 on the Xbox 360 and PS3 and for $50 on the Wii. A premium edition will also be available exclusively for PS3 and Xbox 360 owners in the US and Canada and will retail for $70 in the former territory. The premium edition will come bundled with the six already-available downloadable songs, special packaging, and a voucher allowing for free export of all the game's songs to Rock Band 1, 2, or 3. Exporting the songs from the standard edition of the game will cost $9.99.

@lbptoady Green Day have no history? I'm pretty sure a little digging will reveal they have quite a long history. 20 years give or take. And what does a bands history have to do with RB? It's all about the music and having fun. I'll admit they've missed a great opportunity with Green Day. If you go back through all their albums and b-sides they actually have a wide range of sounds (just listen to Platypus then Misery. Two very different songs). I personally thought The Beatles were a little too slow to fully enjoy in RB. But that's just my opinion. Anyways I'm done now.

I'm really looking forward to this! Not for any form of challenge, but just for some fun times! And for those who call Green Day an emo band, please stop it. Sure, they've adopted the new wave VISUAL emo style but their music is anything but. "emo" (being short for "emotive rock") actually describes their pre-Dookie releases (which had more love songs) more than their latest 2 albums. also I'm dying to play Dookie from start to finish! YAY!

To Orestes: Personally, I see their latest albums as being more egocentric. In my opinion, often times when a band suddenly "turns political", they tend to get more pretentious.

Dookie is good. Why only three songs from Nimrod? And what the f**k with the other s**t?! Greenday has sucked balls for a long time now. Bunch of wannabe scrubs.

It is nice that all of the songs come from one band. :-D I'm glad they focus on American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown because the music has a stronger message. It doesn't have the egocentric focus of Dookie, Nimrod, etc. Good stuff!

@misu70 21 Guns is one of the six 21st Century Breakdown songs already available for download for Rock Band. So you can either download them or buy the premium edition that contains them.

Great setlist. My only concern is Green Day with a "T" rating. Not worth $60 for a bunch of Walmartized songs. It completely kills the rhythm of the game (and what is a rhythm game without rhythm?) when lines you know and love are edited. Love Green Day, but I'll pass.

omg ppl, it's music. it all comes down to tastes. if you don't like green day than don't play the game. the guys at harmonix are probably fans and thought that they had a great and big enough list of songs to make a game out of it. lots of people are surely gonna buy and play this and if you're not happy with this just wait till rock band 3 comes out or whatever you want :P

@CaptainHerlock I know, I get and understand what's all going on in the Music industry but when companies make games that people have to play through they should listen to the people who play or suffer their products..... I'm really speaking as a guy who has no talent for making music but I recognize great talent when I see or hear it, Green Day don't have it whatsoever..... If you want a band associated with the color green then pick Type O Negative lol I was there in roughly 1994 when MTV aired Green Day's first video.....I was even then WTF is this garbage lol @POGOLIUS69 Nice one, I'm not a Nickelback fan either lol Naw I'm more Type O Negative, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Metallica [their cool period], Megadeth.....basically the classics

Green Day is an awesome band. The only thing that is a bit questionable is their recent music. Of course though, they haven't won music awards for no reason!

Greenday as a band choice is great. Their music throughout their whole career has changed very much album to album, and I respect the band more than most. I LOVED them growing up -- 39/Smooth through Warning. UNFORTUNATELY I HATE THE LAST 2 ALBUMS AND THAT'S WHAT THEYRE REVOLVING AROUND!!!!!!! They're absolute crap, repeating regurgitated you know what. Just as bad as Nickelback except they're self-made and not born into wealth. The worst part? Now all of you youngins who think Greenday sucks because of only really knowing their new stuff (and you'd be right...very right...if that's all that existed) will only have that thought enforced. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad setlist. Ruined a potentially great thing.

@green_dominator It's just a marketing tool for these guys. MTV doesn't play music, neither does VH1. Radio is too narrowly formatted, and younger people don't buy CDs. They DO buy video games. They figure it's the best way to get their music across now.

hate to commercialize it but. . . .why not bring out some stuff from trivium!!! or anything that isnt punk or emo that took more than a day to write!!!! this game is gonna be the easiest music game out there! and heeeeeere come the negatives haha but hey if i get a positive then it shows there are still people out there that remember what true music is! hugs n kisses everyone

How does Green day of all bands get their own Rock Band game?? They sucked when they started and they still suck.... American Idiot was the worst album when it came out, every single song had the same exact drum beat to it and the same 3 or 4 guitar solos in every song....just flipping annoying really... I really don't know how they seduced America into listening to their uninspired so called music.......

at least harmonix gives you the option to download those song for rockband 2, so if you dont want it, dont buy it and download them, activition should learn that for harmonix, guitar hero van halen is the worst gh game ever, and is not because of van halen´s music....

I like how the mainstream Green Day albums are going to be fully playable, and yet some of the best GD albums are being pushed off to the side in favour of a broader audience.

AWESOME!!!!!! I was worried I was only going to see a lot a new Greenday, atleast there is ALL OF DOOKIE, yet they have several cds before it. great band for RB. and haters you dont know anything greenday is now basically a classic band. So if you hate new greenday, so do i, but 90s greenday was good music. AND MUSE BLOWS ugh

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the only other bands besides the Beatles that deserve a full-on Rock Band game are Led Zeppelin and (to a much lesser extent) U2.

Wait, this is real? oh my god. *shakes head* a Rock Band: MUSE would have been epic. i don't see why they wouldn't. i mean cmon, they are the most requested band for DLC on the Rock Band official forums. one thread has 1191 pages, almost 12 000 posts and over 600 000 views. It's pretty freaking obvious.

I really hoped that Harmonix would stop with band exclusive games after The Beatles. The Beatles had a good enough catalog for it to be kind of justified as its own game, but I really don't like them making one band specific game every year.

Could care less about this RB game. I would possibly buy a few songs through DLC... but doing a whole Green Day game is absurd.
