Green Day dawns on Rock Band July 7

Punk trio's exclusive partnership with MTV Games' franchise kicks off with three-song DLC pack next month, more songs and projects to follow.

by

Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong has been neither shy nor overly descriptive about his band's upcoming debut in Rock Band. So while it's been known that the punk rockers' music would be appearing in the rhythm game franchise, there's been some question as to whether it would be in the form of downloadable tracks, a full album, or a stand-alone retail product, such as The Beatles: Rock Band or AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack.

Green Day debuts in Rock Band July 7.

The answer might be "all of the above." MTV Games today confirmed that Green Day's music will be appearing in Rock Band starting next month. While the company only announced a July 7 launch for three songs from the band's latest album, 21st Century Breakdown, it noted that, "Additional Green Day songs and projects will be announced at a later date."

The three-song pack will include "21 Guns," "Know Your Enemy" (seen below), and "East Jesus Nowhere." MTV Games did not specify if the game's downloadable storefronts for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii would all be receiving the content that week.

Having a a rockband with green day songs wouldn't be bad but I whole game with it, not such a great idea. They have seen that most of the Artist focused games haven't done so well, yet they keep making them. I think they should stick to making games with a single music genre in mind or they ones with many different music genres.

i've been waiting for some Green Day on Rock Band . . . but I was hoping for some older stuff like Basketcase. I wouldn't playing a few songs off their last album, but I've only heard the one single of the current release.

I'm guessing its just more downloadable tracks in the future....I still can't see an entire game based on Green Day alone but I could be entirely wrong

this band makes songs that i would only play once just to say that I 5 starred it. And i would never play them again. Other than good riddance i cant think of a desirable song.

Well... they're certainly an ... "interesting" choice for their own Rock Band game. The good news is, they'll likely do with this what they do with all band-centered rhythm release and show their progression... which means a ton of pretty good pop/punk songs. That is, if they have the balls to start them where they actually began in the late 80's. Doubt it. They're a very influential band... but in staying relevant they became boring and bland.

gamepunk86 nailed that one on the head. At least they're bound to release some Dookie material later on.

Woo punk! Simplistic yet catchy. It's a unique style, and most people who don't like Green Day simply don't appreciate punk rock for what it is: simple. But hey, that's cool too.

green day turned into a melodramatic fake-political act with american idiot and is trying to recreate those sales again with their new lame album.

As far as Green Day being skilled musicians, they do have a decent drummer, but what punk band doesn't? =P

Too bad my mom doesn't play these games. She loves Green Day.

LOL i kinda agree about know your enemy. i thought it was a less frantic and much more slow paced version of american idiot and the drums were straight off of extrodinary girl.

To all the people using the excuse that green day sold out, every body sells out, that's the point. If I was a musician I would sell out in a heartbeat if it meant making millions of dollars. I have loved every single green day album and IMO 21st century breakdown is one of, if not the best album they have put out yet. The only album I didn't like was Shenanigans, but that was just all their B-sides anyway. I notice a bunch of green day haters here, but i bet anything this track pack sells extremely well.

oh and i'd personally prefer to play the older GD music then the last few releases. The "old school" GD is less polished and catered and would make for a more fun experience IMO. As to those who say "Green Day sucks.. blah blah" please get off your high horses, you don't have to like the music, nor are you forced to buy it, i've spent less money overall in 2009 for DLC then i have since i own this game, but that is mostly based because IMO, most of the releases so far in this calendar year are simply not appealing enough for me to WANT to download.

I do like Green Day, but the truth is, there should not be more then DLC at this point and time. GH is already starting to saturate the market with all there releases and RB would not help the cause if/when they release even a track pack for GD. I'd rather just have the option to download from the albums then to have to buy the track pack for a certain percentage of songs i'd like to have. My two cents.

You know what? I like Green Day, and I'm not a bit afraid to admit it. I think they're a great band even if most of you don't. Go ahead and hate on me - I won't care.

Jesus of suburbia would be so fun. It has like 5 different parts and they have a totally different sound.

DLC pack. Ok, that's good. As for a full game, no! Give it to a band more deserving. Beatles was good, and the upcoming Pearl Jam..I actually never heard of them. I'm even surprised I have never seen any Zeppelin tracks at all in both RB and GH.

These 3 songs are great songs off their new cd. Green Day doesn't write their music hoping it will appeal to every single person. They write it because they want to show people that you can have your own opinion and should say what you want to say. Billie Joe is genius. Those saying Green Day does not have any Punk music history....all I can say is: Are you serious????

Units420

Just curious if anyone has any desire to grow with musicians and music or is being stuck in the past more comfortable? Not trying to suggest people should like Green Day's new album. But if they continued to put out Dookie after Dookie, wouldn't that be boring?

If they're doing anything "punk" how about a real Punk band with real history. Have Black Flag or The Ramones instead!

cowman_53: i was dissapointed in 21st century breakdown as well. the storyline isnt nearly as memorable as the one on american idiot, the songs arent as good, and the drumming is to simplified. a few good tracks on there (east jesus nowhere, american euglogy, christians inferno, viva la gloria when it gets past the intro). dont know what happened.

NyGin07
NyGin07

hey im a long time green day fan and guess what? i think american idiot is as good as dookie. it wasnt a sell out, it was a band angry and fired up, playing with passion and ideas for the first time in years.

WHAT?? LAME!!!! WHERES AMERICAN IDIOT AND DOOKIE! FULL ALBUMS!!! KNOW YOUR ENEMY IS A BLAND, SLOWER PACE REHASH OF AMERICAN IDIOT!! BOOOOOO!!! TRES DRUMMING SUCKS ON THE NEW ALBUM lame!!!

I hear a lot of people complaining that their stuff is easy to play. Yep it is a lot of power cords. But a good song doesn't have to be complicated. A great guitar player can still play music no one likes.. To each his own.

No_asylum
No_asylum

as long as these Rockband/ Guitar Hero "Band" games are at add on price and not the full $60 I'm ok with any band doing this. ( And I do like the New Green day album) But it needs to be $40 or less!

Let's face it... all bands change, and Green Day is living proof of that. I feel that they have sold out and that their current music is too poppy-sounding. That's just my personal opinion, and everyone is entitled to have one. I'm glad they've enjoyed new-found successes with American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, but I refuse to purchase either album because this is not the Green Day that I grew up with. Again, my own personal choice. Now, don't get me wrong. I still hold much respect for the band's back catalog. I'll be more than happy to spend some money on songs from Dookie and Nimrod. I'll even buy all of the songs from both albums if they are ever released. It's just sad to see that Green Day has strayed from its punk roots. They went from a band playing awesome small shows (like one they played at a local venue when I was young) to the glitz and glam of the Hollywood stage. Awesome for them, not so awesome for the long-time fans. Bring on the old school track packs!

Lostboy1224

I think an album DLC would suffice. They do have enough songs to make an entire game but why do that when we can just download it and use the songs at any time during our gaming session without changing discs.

I'm no expert on these games but aren't the bands on here supposed to be GOOD at their instruments? And LOL @ Gamer 4 Fun saying Slipknot.

No full game. Not for Green Day. Beatles? Yes. Stick to DLC, and put out some of their popular songs at that.
