Confirming rumors from late last week, Ubisoft today has released the first demo for its upcoming military shooter Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 over Xbox Live Marketplace. The timing of the release gives players more than a full month to try out the game before the retail version hits stores in March.
The free demo concentrates on the single-player portion of the game and is set during the second level of the full version. Gamers will suit up as US soldier-of-the-future Scott Mitchell as he heads into Mexico as a lone wolf. Though he won't initially be accompanied by flesh-and-blood support, he will have some high-tech tools at his disposal, including the UAV Cypher and M.U.L.E. support drones.
Also released over Xbox Live is a new trailer for GRAW2 (above right), featuring a cover of Iggy Pop and the Stooges' "Gimme Danger" sung by former Pixies frontman Frank Black.
There was also a bit of news for those anticipating the PlayStation 3 version of the game. Last week, Ubisoft revealed that it was delaying the PS3 version of GRAW2 to its next fiscal year. Today, the company narrowed its release date to June.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is rated T for Teen and will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, PlayStation Portable, and PC. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage.
