Grand Theft Auto V music now on iTunes

Rockstar Games releases The Music of Grand Theft Auto V across three separate albums for $10 each or together for $25.

by

Gamers looking to take the music from open-world game Grand Theft Auto V with them on the go are in luck, as Rockstar Games today released The Music of Grand Theft Auto V on iTunes.

The Music of Grand Theft Auto V is a trio of separate albums from the game. Each sells for $10 individually or as a full compilation for $25.

Volume 1: Original Music includes songs created specifically for the game from artists like Wavves, Twin Shadow and Tyler, and The Chain Gang of 1974.

GTAV was the first entry in the series to feature an original score. Gamers can now take it with them through Volume 2: The Score, which was composed in collaboration between Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson, and hip hop producers The Alchemist and Oh No.

For the purposes of Volume 2: The Score, Rockstar Games said the stems of the game's interactive score were layered, mixed, and arranged into an album of songs by producer DJ Shadow.

Finally, Volume 3: The Soundtrack features a selection of songs spanning the game's 17 in-game radio stations. Tracks from Bootsy Collins, Flying Lotus, Bob Seger, Jai Paul, Toro y Moi, and Waylon Jennings are included.

GTAV launched last week and generated $1 billion in global retail sales in three days, faster than any other entertainment property in history. For more, check out GameSpot's review.

I liked the soundtrack, it's not awesome as Vice City, for example, but a lot of bands from LA, Channel X is pretty awesome, so yeah, i enjoyed.

Every time I hear Ab-Soul. I douse my car in gas and set it on fire. That song is freakin' awful.

I personally thought this was the best GTA Soundtrack, but its close with Vice City.

Why would you pay 25 dollars for the worst soundtrack in GTA history? Good joke.

The tracks on the radio are probably the worst to date in my opinion. Rock Radio is terrible in this game! No Dubstep station as well! Boo!

if they only add a DLC or an add-on feature that allow us to play the musics from our consoles, i would totally buy it

I am playing the game mostly ignoring the / my considered not wanted tune selection , there was much better music and well deserved musical wizards that did not make to silly  song show , I just dump the button when I don;'t want to listen and that's many times I go silent on some long journeys past the stones just sitting in blind faith on those dire straights thinking if kid rock would have done it that way ? ... that's the only thing in this whole game that disappointed me .. so I just turn it off ! ....

The score is hit and miss. The score which is done by Tangerine Dream is the best, the rest are not as good.

The dynamic soudntrack is SO awesome and epic and fits the feel of the game, much better than the radio stations

It was not the greatest soundtrack ever but it still was good. I did get one song off it on amazon, The set up. That one was pretty good to me at least.

The game deserves a score of 7 max in my book due to the audible fecal matter alone. Such a turn off.

No thanks. Not a good soundtrack at all. One of the few negatives about this game. No decent rock, pop-rock or metal. Bah.

I think the problem with GTA IV and V is that they play in contemporary settings. The music in Vice City was an aural representation of the game world. More than any other GTA game, the music thoroughly grounded the game world in the era that was desired by the developers. This is because new musical styles became popular during the 80's. Electronic pop, metal, power ballads, hip hop; those genres were all developing or popular during the 80's. This might have lead to the feeling that Vice City was by far the most 'authentic'.

GTA San Andreas did have a little bit of this period identity with gangsta rap and the developments in the rock department, but it was already looking back with a lot of musical styles. The music in GTA IV and V is in a way typical of its time. The global availability of music grants the option to listen to all kinds of musical styles, both from the past and present. But these days there aren't really any new styles being developed, most music is firmly anchored in past formats or rehashes past genres. That's nothing to be bitter about, but such music doesn't lend itself for a strong period identity. Musical experience has become much more individual and appreciating the radio stations overall is much harder, because there's little to connect the different styles and more importantly, there's no real excuse to exclude certain genres...

The only station people listen to is West Coast Classics. The lack of rock or metal in addition to the talk radio being too short this time around is pretty upsetting.

I like West Coast Classics while driving around as Franklin and the country station when driving around the north as Trevor. Two completely different experiences, that's the magic of GTA.

The music in GTAV is one of the weaker things with this game. I'll admit that the score or heist-music, which is usually one note played over and over (or the same chord) is pretty decent for its setup. The radios however are the worst in any of the GTA-games. This is my opinion. Watching Danny O'Dwyer playing the GTA 3-games, it made me think about all the great music earlier in this series, and how at some point, you could just stop the car and listen to the music. GTAV has none of these musical moments and I end up just turning the radio off! I am glad however to see that Dr.Dre has finally made it into these games.

yeah I really don't understand the point of buying digital soundtracks to games or movies. The benefit is buying a legal discounted compilation? hm

Not really a fan of the GTAV soundtrack, I miss Radio Broker from GTAIV.

I'll wait for it to hit Amazon MP3. I don't bother with proprietary shit like igadgets.

All the stations on the left side of the select wheel are trash, maybe 4 good ones on the right

@HarryDaGeeza There are literally about 5 good songs and 10 more acceptable songs. Worst GTA soundtrack ever.

@blackothh The pause menu music is better than the majority of radio songs. Pathetic.

@Sevoreth Very True, the music in this game is flat out awful. Which is strange considering some of the very good music stations some of the games have had.

Honestly I always have the radio off rather than having vocal-faecal matter being poured into my living room.

tightwad34

@wexorian I agree it is useless, but to be fair I saw the same one on some other sites.

Grenadeh

@loafofgame Except that unlike any real rock station, the rock station in GTA5 doesn't play rock. It plays god awful shit and a few good old songs from the 80s or 70s. No modern music AT ALL. Newest rock song is probably Radio Ga Ga.

@loafofgame You should hear some more underground music. If you hear what's going on in progressive rock and metal, as well as electronica fusion, some of it is fucking crazy, and no contemporary game has included these new unique styles of prog rock.

@Ultima_Dragoon LCHC was brilliant and there's nothing like that this time round. I either just listen to the talk station or the score. Sometimes Channel X and the hip hop stations are okay though.

@_Judas_ Dr. Dre was in San Andreas. Nutting but a G thang and dre day.  There's two songs.

loafofgame
loafofgame

@Grenadeh @loafofgame Yeah. Though the music in GTA IV and V is more diverse (as is our musical taste and awareness nowadays), there is no way to include all genres. Which doesn't make the absence of metal and contemporary rock less weird, since those genres are pretty big.

loafofgame
loafofgame

@fillup0 @loafofgame I know. :-) I'm well aware of the developments in the electronic department and decently in progressive rock (though not at all in metal; not my genre). I was just trying to openly speculate about why the music in GTA V as a whole seems to have less appeal with a lot of people. Nowadays there are no new 'mainstream' genres (that everybody knows) that can be seen as music of this era and that can more strongly reinforce the feel of the game world (like the music in Vice City did).

Busta

@fillup0 @loafofgame  Soul wax  is my fav station.  And there are gems on the stations as well.  There just isn't a one all round good station anymore.

Grenadeh

@001011000101101 @beuneus12 Yea like Yama said, the music in the game is flat out bad. It's not a matter of opinion. There's no good punk, no metal, no modern rock, not even any classic rock, no good country, and 5 fucktons of electronica and a little rap. There is one Johnny Cash song - the worst choice they could have made from an AMAZING artist, one Queen song which is good at least. Nothing else.
