Take-Two Interactive's popular action game Grand Theft Auto III has taken the lead on NPD Techworld's latest weekly list of best-selling PC games. Grand Theft Auto III was originally released for PlayStation 2 last fall, and was just released for the PC last month. It lets players assume the role of a criminal on the loose in a virtual city, and they must drive, steal, shoot, evade police, and perform a variety of other actions in order to complete a series of missions.

The Sims: Vacation, Electronic Arts' latest expansion pack for its virtual-life game The Sims, climbed one spot to second place, followed by The Sims itself in third place. EA also captured fourth place, with its World War II action game Medal of Honor: Allied Assault climbing up from seventh place the week before to occupy that position. Fifth place went to Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix, Activision's gory first-person shooter.
