Gradius V E3 2004 Preshow Impressions

Konami releases new information on the fifth title in its side-scrolling shooter series for the PlayStation 2.

Currently scheduled for release this summer, Gradius V is a PlayStation 2-exclusive, side-scrolling shooter in development at Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo (KCET). The game will see you assuming control of the same "Vic Viper" craft that appeared in previous entries in the series, but it will also boast a number of new features, including four upgrade paths for your ship, upgradable power-ups, and, for the first time in a Gradius title, simultaneous two-player action. Gradius V will also take advantage of the PlayStation 2's online capabilities through the introduction of an Internet-based high-scores system.

The all-new adventure in Gradius V will see you negotiating seven expansive levels in total, and Konami hopes that the different ship upgrade paths available will go some way toward increasing the replay value of the game. We'll bring you more information on Gradius V once we've had a chance to check it out at Konami's E3 booth.
