GoldenEye 007 reloaded for PS3, 360

Activision adding 60-frames-per-second HD visuals to latest remake of Nintendo 64 first-person shooter; PS3 version to support Move peripheral.

While GoldenEye has become just another James Bond film featuring the super-suave superspy, the 1997 Nintendo 64 first-person shooter based on it has become the stuff of gaming legend. Activision has already capitalized on the game's reputation once with last year's Wii reimagining, and now the publisher is taking another shot at the project, this time in HD.

Activision is taking another shot at GoldenEye.

Activision today announced GoldenEye 007: Reloaded for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, set for release this fall. The publisher is touting the game as built on a brand-new engine, with 60-frames-per-second high-definition graphics and PlayStation Move compatibility for PS3 owners as selling points.

The game's single-player campaign will let players employ gameplay modifiers (infinite ammo, Golden Gun mode), with additional MI6 Ops challenge levels and an expanded Time Trial mode. For multiplayer fans, the game will let up to 16 players compete online with new modes, maps, weapons, and characters from the Bond universe.

Good god enough with the CoD already. Yeah, Activision is making it. Yeah, Activision made Call of Duty. But guess what? Goldeneye came out BEFORE Call of Duty. This is a full-on remake of that, it has nothing to do with CoD nor will it ever. I, myself, am thrilled for I've been waiting a long, long time for a full-on remake that would allow for online play and all the planned extras sound great. Looking forward to it.

@AgentRebecca Golden eye(2010) is made by the same company that makes the Call of Duty games and other gamers have said it plays just like Call of Duty and even recycles some of the weapon designs.

@ToTs_00 @mariokart64fan HA! LOL!!! I remember about a month ago in the rumor article about this game, and these Nintendo fanboys where absolutely insistent that Golden Eye Reloaded was for Wii-U or another Nintendo console because Nintendo supposedly owns the rights and it "Can Never come out on another console". Glad the game is coming to other consoles, and just laughing at all the Nintendo fanboys who where insistent the Goldeneye series was Nintendo exclusive.

@JaxxRaxor Good point about the console rival. But the wii could try to re-make the original N64 version with the better graphics and all.

@hatieshorrer You kinda make it sound like all FPS games is Call of Duty...just because its a FPS, it is not CoD or even related.

If it is just like Perfect Dark HD on XBLA, this will be good.

@GSuer10 It's not possible. Rare developed the game when it was still a 2nd party developer under Nintendo, so Microsoft would need Nintendo's permission to make the Nintendo 64 game on their console, which isn't happening considering that Nintendo is a rival of Microsoft in the console wars. A upgraded port of the Wii Re imaging is the only thing you can get if you don't own a N64 and the original game.

I don't believe that a HD remake of the Wii Goldeneye is necessary, and in fact is a little stupid. Goldeneye on Wii sold about 1.28 million copies so far worldwide, which is great for a non-casual title 3rd party title on the system. Part of the sucess is not only because of nostalgia over the N64 original but the fact that Wii doesn't have a lot of FPS titles. Releasing an HD remake of this game on the 360 and PS3, which is oversaturated with FPS games is a bad idea. Certainly there are a lot of people who don't have a Wii but have a PS3/Xbox 360 who will be willing to pick up this game, but at the same time with BattleField 3, Modern Warfare 3 among others also coming this fall, I think Goldeneye is going to end up selling worse on the HD consoles compared to the Wii version.

Well I looked at the link above and it is NOT the remake of the N64 version. Its like the remake of the wii with Goldeneye similarity but it is NOT the original on N64. That's a load of crap. Why can't they remake the original Goldeneye?!

leeko_link
leeko_link

I still got my original N64 copy so I don't need this. They should had just release the original N64 version on XBLA with upgraded graphics and online play would be enough, not the Wii version re-imagined in HD.

GSuser10

Well I loved the N64 version so I hope they don't mess up this version by re-doing certain things. Just bring the old game back the way it was.

While the N64 version will forever be lodged in mine and my friends memories, from looking at all the other screens and pinpointing respawn timers, to our favorite battle mode, License to Kill, Pistols, on Facility. But I am sorry to say no thanks Activision, the days are past now, let them Go Gracefully, and never forget the memories associated with them. And a last ditch Cash grab from Nostalgia goons who didn't buy the Wii version is NOT the way to go about it.

Well this is too late. Should have happened at the same time as the Wii release, and even before that... should have been released LAST gen. As with Duke Nukem, now it's too late, and other FPS have taken their places.

WOW! What a bunch of hypocrite on Gamespot u slurp Activision 4 this then dis them 4 CoD when all this is gonna b is CoD:GoldenEye Make up ur mind or at least have a thought of ur own

Why can't these developers seem to get that nostalgic fans of the original want a proper remake not a "re-imaging" (aka a different game with the same title).

Am I the only one that wasn't impressed by the Wii remake and isn't excited at all about this? No offense to Activision, actually no maybe I do mean to offend them, but I don't think that PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers need or want another Gears of War clone, even if it is dressed up as Goldeneye.

While I'm thrilled about the idea of playing a new and improved HD version. I'm just concerned about the knock on effect this announcement will have, because basically this annoucement is Activision pandering to all the Wii haters.

if you want to p[lay it in HD take the WII version for example and run it in the WII emulator on the PC (its called dolphin. great gamecube/wii emulator). you get HD resolution etc. looks much better than on the WII. you dont have to pay for the game for second or third time just to get what you can get with a free emulator. the same for the N64 version. you can even plug your Wiimote/nunchuk in the pc

The Wii version was one of my favorite FPS of all time. It'll only be better in HD.

its for sure a cheap quick buck maker for the gullible player. anyone who thinks clearly and is not a millionaire will not pay 2 or 3 times for the same game. i am starting to forget when gaming was about games and fun and not this disgusting money rip off schemes by greedy basterds like EA or ACtivison

@Taix34 How do you know that Activision are milking Goldeneye 007. Why not think it as an attempt to popularise Goldeneye 007 so Xbox and PS3 users understand how good this game was and how it changed modern shooters for the better.

Is this a remake of the remake or a brand new goldeneye? Is this going to be the sme game as the Wii version? If not I might look into it.

Ah, I knew there was a reason I didn't buy the Wii version. I just didn't know it 'til now.

Stonecutters908

Already played through it on the Wii. I'll pass. Too many good shooters coming out in the next 2-3 months. Cleaner graphics and a couple of more online modes won't reanimate this corpse for me. I just didn't like it. It was just COD with some James Bond paint on it and over all it simply wasn't a good game. They could do so much more with Bond but they have reduced it to a pure FPS when it should be closer to Metal Gear or maybe a better version of Splinter Cell. Bond is a secret agent, not a grunt.

@N4Red_NYC I agree ppartially that it is also nintendo's fault but this is like what has happened to all the people that bought sf4, ssf4 and now MvC. They were screwed because now an even better versions are coming out after they spent the $$$ on the originals.

nini200
nini200

@N4Red_NYC Its a slap in the face because this game should've been Nintendo's response to Perfect Dark and now the HD Systems, at least 360 has both. Nintendo needs to get a Perfect Dark 64 remake to make up for this. This, No More Heroes, HOTD Overkill have all been stripped of their exclusivity. Next up, I'm guessing Tatsunoko vs Capcom HD which HD fans said wasn't good yet when MVC3 comes out using the same engine, MVC3 Rocks... Explain that logic. The same thing will happen with the TVC HD remake that I know is coming now. Soon enough, there will be no reason to own a Wii outside of Virtual Console and Wiiware. They stripped Motion Controls from them, now this. I like all my consoles to have something unique about them which gives a reason to buy them but this is just wrong.

N4Red_NYC
N4Red_NYC

@nini200 how is this a slap in the face ? If you have it , you got to play it 1st right. If you are mad at the 60fps gameplay modifiers etc... blame nintendo for keeping their community in the past with a baby step above ps2 & xbox capabilities.

nini200

needless to say, this is a slap in the face of all us Wii owners that supported the Wii Remake.

What's that? Activision is driving ANOTHER IP into the ground with release after relase after re-release? /fake surprise Goldeneye was revolutionary 14 years ago when console gamers had never seen multiplayer deathmatch-style gaming before. Heck, consoles hardly even had FPS's. Because I was coming from PC gaming, when I played Goldeneye at friends' houses I was never as awestruck as they were. Even so, it was a revolutionary game, and a heck of a lot of fun. I just wish they would've kept it as a virtual console N64 release (and maybe PSN/XBoxLive). The remastered edition on the Wii doesn't hold the same magic, and this re-remastered version will be the same.
