GOG announces three games for $5 charity deal

Botanicula, The Whispered World, and Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey are some of the 10 games on offer.

Digital retailer GOG.com has announced a charity promotion where users can pick three games from a list of ten for $5. 100 percent of the money raised will be donated to charity.

Each game's developers have waived their royalty payments, and GOG.com is paying the transaction fees so that all proceeds go to one of three chosen charities. Buyers can donate money to WWF, Worldbuilders, or Gaming for Good.

The ten games on offer are:

  • Botanicula
  • Creatures: Village
  • Darwinia
  • Driftmoon
  • FTL: Faster Than Light
  • Incredipede
  • Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
  • Pid
  • The Whispered World
  • Waking Mars

Users can also add more games to the bundle or donate extra to charity if they wish.

"After recently celebrating five years in business, after building one of the largest hardcore gaming communities on the 'net, and after all of the success and growth it has achieved the company has decided it is time to give back," said GOG.com in a statement.

The promotion will close on Tuesday, November 11.

I just spent my last paypal money on the HumBat bundle and won't refill my paypal account anytime soon. Damn, I'm so buried in games.

That is a weird promotion, why not let people pay extra if they want more of the games while keeping a 5$ minimum for 3 games only ?

I've only heard of Waking Mars and FTL but I'm glad to be seeing more of these charity promotion sales. Hopefully we see more in the future

Good move from GOG. It would be even better if they included some titles that gamers would care to play.

@Talavaj You have to pick 3 games, but you can pick them all, and then you can just up the amount you want to pay manually. Max amount is $999.99 :)

Oddworld was huge. You definitely need to check it out. I got the entire collection on steam for 10 bucks.

@steve_esquire Man, you need to play Abe's Oddysee, one of the best platformers and puzzle games IMO.

@Rheinmetal Now, don't be ungrateful! GoG or any other company is not here to bring you cheap games that you personally like. I don't care for these games, but it's a nice thing of them to do. Other people will certainly enjoy them and feel good about themselves for supporting charity.

@Rheinmetal FTL is a terrific game!  It can be pretty unforgiving but it's definitely worth a go.

@Rheinmetal you realize that if a company doesnt want to give her game for free, then GOG cant do anything about it?

@stillstillstill @Thyasianman It actually is a great game... at least on an android phone and when you're taking a dump. I swear when I play that game on the toilet I end up sitting on the toilet a lot longer than I need to.

@Fursnake @JLCrogue @stillstillstill @Thyasianman Lol, I've never understood the need to read while taking a crap and/or piss. It doesn't take long enough to read or do anything. I'd rather think about life and the eternal questions or some funny youtube clip while I'm doing my thing.
