God of War veteran joins Crysis studio for unannounced game

Todd Papy working at Crytek as game director for a mystery project.

by

God of War: Ascension director Todd Papy has joined Crysis studio Crytek where he will work at the German developer as game director for an unannounced project.

Papy left Sony Santa Monica last month, moving to Germany and teasing, "I haven't left games." He was also design director on God of War III.

The confirmation comes by way of Papy's Twitter biography, which reveals his affiliation with Crytek and his title at the company.

Crytek recently shipped Xbox One launch title Ryse: Son of Rome, which was developed by the studio's office in Frankfurt, Germany. Crytek UK is currently working on Homefront 2.

I like all the people on here who haven't actually played the game calling it shit based on GS review, who are proven to know nothing.

Good now we can be plagued by a franchization of Ryse which was barely good in the first place, just like GoW.

They should stop declaring that great engines is the responsible on making great games  cause great games would be achieved with great team developers and not with engines itself.

let me guess. making an imitation game based on God of War was a failure idea from the beginning so from their failure they request help from the original owner of the content but their foolish ears won't bring luck to their future games.

Crytek should focus on engines, instead of game development...

Probably another generic shooter or slasher

So, the guy responsible for the pile of fail that was Ascension has joined Crytek, the dev behind the XBone launch game that made Ascension look like Game of the Century material. What's he gonna do, make Ryse II even shitter than Ryse I. I mean, is that even possible?

game will probably still be shit...crytek places all their emphasis on pretty graphics, Homefront 2 might be a super turd...a polished super turd

I don't think even the flying spaghetti monster can fix your last game.

I'd wish that Cryteck would focus on making only Video game engines rather than games.

Crytek is a great place to go if you want your video game career to die.

These guys should just leave the gaming industry and focus on outsourcing themselves to make CGI's for other companies. Graphically their work is top notch, everything else leaves much to be desired.

Can we just kill off Crytek?

Just drop Homefront 2. For all the hype homefront got, it was garbage!

Good Luck because need it because since there new game didn't do well  Cryteck could have layoffs   by next year  .   And they might never work exclusive game ever again.

@Pupchu

It does look like irony to me. Focusing on engines instead of game development, isn't it what they do all the time?

@ThePlantainWhat you meant to say was:

game will probably still be shyt

It's not Crytek if they don't spell it wrong

@Halloll  Ryse 2: Joan of Arc

Of course they'll make Joan have unrealistic supermodel looks and nearly no clothing - but she'll still kick ass and the graphics will be so good you could count the freckles on her cleavage

@sohail5566 I remember the time when they used to make good games like Far Cry 1 and Crysis 1, now they're just graphics w*ores...

@billzihang They've made only one XBO exclusive out of the countless games they have produced.

@pszone I don't agree with the reviews Ryse got. Everyone that I talked to thought the game was great. For what kind of game it was, I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the combat, and yes it does advance on a harder difficulty. I think some reviewers went through it on the easy level, and by doing that I could see h ow it would get boring. On the harder settings, you really have to time your attacks and blocks if you want to stay alive. I also thought the story was great. The only way I could see people getting through it in 6 hours is if they have it on easy, and once again that kinda brings the game down.

If they wanted to make it better, they would have to change the game completely and make it open world. I highly doubt people had the kinda of game it is (linear hack n slash) in mind when they reviewed it. It doesn't compare to Skyrim but Skyrim is a different game style.

@dantekb43 @sohail5566 exactiy i enjoyed both far cry 1 and crysis 1 i kinda like crysis 2 i know most people hate it and crysis 3 was a disappointment i hope crytek realize that graphics isn't  only thing in the game

@xxmavr1kxx @pszone Dude it doesn't even compare to the old LOTR games on PS2. It doesn't even compare to the Narnia, Eragon, or King Arthur film-to-game adaptations. Granted I only played like an hour of it, but still. Combat was just boring.

foxrock66

@R2C25 @foxrock66 @xxmavr1kxx @pszone Considering the game is entirely comprised of combat and pretty graphics, I don't see I need to have any other complaint. If the game's primary mechanic is boring, then by extension, the game is boring.

Also I'm not sure you know how to use the word "elaborate"

@foxrock66 @xxmavr1kxx @pszone  Just opinion I guess. You are the first person that is not a reviewer that disliked it (only playing an hour.) Me on the other hand enjoyed it. Could they add in more of an RPG element to it? Yea sure, changing armor and what not, but I enjoyed it.
