GMX Media has today announced that it will publish Journey to the Center of the Earth in the UK, Scandinavia, and Portugal in February next year. The adventure game, which is inspired by the Jules Verne book of the same name, is currently in development at Micro Application.

"A contemporary Jules Verne would no doubt have been keen to help create exciting adventure games," said Rémy Poirson, Micro Application’s production manager. "However, as the centenary of his death approaches in 2005, his brilliant imagination, the vivid worlds he portrayed, and the sense of adventure and discovery inherent in his breathtaking plots still constitute the best possible ingredients for a great adventure game. Journey to the Center of the Earth is one of these."

Set in the year 2005, the game will see players assuming the role of a young reporter named Ariane who inadvertently discovers a subterranean world while working for a discovery magazine in Iceland. The game will feature well over 100 puzzles to solve, around 30 characters to interact with, and two possible endings.
