Ghostbusters getting official LEGO release, but where's the video game?

LEGO has greenlit a fan-made Ghostbusters LEGO set to celebrate the movie's 30th anniversary, but when are we getting a video game version?

LEGO has been taking fan ideas and turning them into real, official LEGO products for a while now via LEGO Cussoo, and that fan-sourced project will lead to an official Ghostbusters LEGO set. Using designs from Brent Waller's 30th anniversary project, LEGO is planning to release the set later this year. Final designs haven't been approved yet, but Waller's mock-ups can be seen in the images below from his product page.

But is there any chance these figures could also come to a video game? We've reached out to LEGO games publisher Warner Bros. Interactive to clarify how the licensing agreements work with a one-off set like this, but LEGO has made a habit recently of taking great entertainment properties and making them into fun, family-friendly games (see Marvel, Harry Potter, Star Wars, The Hobbit...you get the gist).

What do you think of the designs? And while it seems like there's next to no chance of a Ghostbusters 3 movie any time soon, would you want the franchise to become a LEGO game? Let us know in the comments below.

This game SERIOUSLY has to get made! As well as introducing the Ghostbusters to a new generation, it will satisfy all the fan boys who have grown up with the Ghostbusters franchise! They have to make this happen as it has such good potential they could incorporate all the old storylines as well as bringing brand-new storylines. You never know this may inspire an idea for a potential Ghostbusters 3 movie!!!!

Why do some people keep giving slimer a tail? I don't get it.

The ecto-1 and busters look sweet though. That trap is monstrously big compared to them. But I guess it's ok.

Lego games are stupid.

But ghostbusters is the pinnacle of awesome.

I'd buy it.

Well why not, looking forward to it , I am only wondering what is going to be next?

The sad part is the fact that playing those games isn't the same as it was 10 years ago:(, its so dull.

I would pay full price for Ghostbusters LEGO game, and a Die Hard LEGO game :)

Heh, Ghostbusters are a year older than me, but thankfully I've got a whole year before I celebrate my 30th anniversary of being me.

the last game was good, but I feel an open world game would fit the bill, I mean Ghostbusters is about a business on busting ghosts, Have a game where you are running a paranormal busting business in an open Lego world.

a Lego Ghost Busters game would be really coool !

i just wish they did not have dialogue in it.. their games were much funnier with the little 'hmmphs' and grunts.. better type of humour..

There are too many lego games already. Leave it how it is with just the actual legos.

Slimer looks seriously wrong, nothing like the original one from the movies

As a fan of the Lego games, i would love to see a Ghostbusters version. If they can put out a Hobbit game they can find plenty of material for a Ghostbusters game.

Imagine the fun you would have with a proton pack blowing up legos.

If there is a script for a Ghostbusters 3 they might as well use it for the game since they are never going to make the movie.

It just seems like common sense considering how well the Lego games have done, and how much clamoring there is for more Ghostbusters, no matter what form it takes.

the LEGO TMNT set has been out for a while and no news about a game adaptation.

I'd love to have this set honestly. I don't even play with Lego's much, but this would be a rare set. I went to the website, but it was showing Lord of the Rings playset. WTF??You can still find it on the site, by going to DISCOVER and typing in GHOSTBUSTERS on the "Search Projects" field. Then you can sign into your Facebook account and Support the project. Seem, not to make people are aware of this.

I'd buy a Lego Ghostbusters game on day 1. I love all Lego games. Not to mention Ghostbusters the Videogame was very underrated and didn't get the sales it deserved.

A Ghostbusters Lego game would be fine, but a new Ghostbusters movie would be even better.

Does anyone remember the old Ghostbusters game Activision released way back in the mid-1980s? It was pretty fun: not only did you have to capture ghosts, but money you earned could be spent on better equipment and vehicle upgrades.

Hopefully if they make a Lego Ghostbusters it's an actual ghostbusting game and not just another "smash everything in the current area to find the one thing you need to build to progress to the next section repeat ad nauseam with crappy combat in-between" Lego game. It was fun the first few times but it's getting a bit old.

I'd play it...in both forms. Legos and video game.

Ah, the nostalgia.  Good movie, great times, and it would be nice to see a Lego Ghostbusters game.

if their making a lego ghostbusters they gotta get the ghostbusters cast to voice their characters again

We definitely need a sequel to the awesome 2009 ghostbusters game. I think lego would just screw it up. I hope 'Terminal Reality' develops it again. The ghostbusters video game for the pc, xbox and ps3 was a masterpiece.

@vduong942  I would only bother with a game adaptation of Lego TMNT if they included every version of the turtles, including comic versions, the '80's cartoon versions, the live-action film versions, the 2003 versions, and the 2007 CGI versions along with the current versions. And characters like Bebop and Rocksteady need to be in it too. Even if they have to be specially made by Traveler's Tales just for the game.

@KidsNDad  It's not the final LEGO version (someone made it and submitted it to Cuusoo), and we don't know if Slimer will be included.

@john_matrix_007I had that game. I remember it being terrible at the time, and AVGN covered it and it hadn;t improved with age. "CONGLATURATION !!!

@john_matrix_007  Sounded pretty ahead of its time. Most games at that point in time were lucky to get bought. In North America anyway.

@catsimboy  Lego Harry Potter was pretty good. And if you were playing as The Hulk in Lego Avengers that would kind of make sense.

I do think they are milking these Lego franchises a little too much though. Can remember how awesome the first Lego Star Wars games were? Now they are just everywhere, and all pretty much the same thing.
