Ghost Recon Online closed beta starts March 5

Ubisoft's free-to-play online shooter scheduled to enter private beta period next month on PC; sign-ups available now.

A closed beta for Ghost Recon Online was supposed to commence last summer, but that never happened. Now, Ubisoft has announced a firm start date for the private beta, saying it will begin on March 5.

Gamers can sign up for the beta today, though there's no admission guarantee.

Gamers eager to try out the third-person online multiplayer shooter for the PC can apply to beta-test the game at the title's official website. Ubisoft did not say how it will go about choosing participants or note how many users the beta will be open to.

In development at Ubisoft Singapore, the downloadable multiplayer shooter will take place in a third-person perspective with a focus on cover-based tactical gameplay. As is standard for free-to-play offerings, players will be afforded opportunities to customize their characters by purchasing "premium items."

The game is also currently in development for the Wii U, though neither Nintendo nor Ubisoft has offered word on that version of the game since its announcement at the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

@Danny_1993 I know, I'm still wondering what the hell happened to the beta I was granted access to about three years ago >_>

Geez...i hope Ghost Recon is as good as Summit Strike was. I seriously need to get away from CoD. I'm so sick of MW3 already

umm what? ive already played the beta. another session has recently ended and i personally didnt really enjoy it. everyone just runs behind cover and fires randomly. only a few people try to find alternate routes on the map and sneak behind the enemy

This game has been delayed so many times, I would assume the final product is pretty good.....

@Angre_Leperkan This is Ghost Recon, Future Soldier is a different game completely, Ghost Recon is the name of the Game Series

@Angre_Leperkan I really do hope this still applys to us lot i was looking forward to it last summer…tbh I thought I just miss the beta without even knowing it had passed and that they ended it at the end of the year or somethign so this is technicallly good news for me if they still are offering the conviction passes

Honestly, this genre has grown stale and uninspired. Oh well. Once Mass Effect 3 comes out I'm good for a long time.

...What happened to the Future Soldier beta that I got access to when Conviction came out?

This was for built for PC? ...Oh boy, the atmosphere is uninspired. I guess the only good thing that came from COD is motivating developers to deny any progression of any type of upgrading of the game engine and instead just make everything look hazey as if theres radiation surrounding the enviroments. Good job, modern gaming developers.

looks quite poor people invest too much in trailers instead of doing it in the own game

This game doesn't look like anything special, doesn't even feel like ghost recon. P.S nobody brings a riot shield to a fire fight.

Already tried it in January, didn't like it at all.
