Get ready for The Witcher 3 by picking up The Witcher 2 for $4 today

Online retailer GOG launches "Battle of the Games" promotion; original Witcher, Blackguards, and various Heroes of Might and Magic titles also on sale.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition is currently available for $4 through CD Projekt Red's own GOG online store. That's an 80 percent markdown. By comparison, the game is selling for $20 right now through Steam.

The deal is part of a special promotion called Battle of the Games, which also sees markdowns on games like the original Witcher ($2), as well as Heroes of Might and Magic ($2.50), Heroes of Might and Magic II ($2.50), Heroes of Might & Magic III ($2.50), and Blackguards ($22.50).

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was originally targeted to release this year, but developer CD Projekt Red recently delayed it to February 2015.

The special prices expire tomorrow, at which point GOG will launch another sale on a set of games. GOG users can vote for which set they would like to see discounted. One set includes Chaser, Red Faction, and Red Faction 2, while the other includes Unreal 2: The Awakening, Unreal Gold, and Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition.

Witcher 2 has to be the most overrated game in the last few years. Even more so than Infinity.

Witcher 2 was amazing. Totally worth every penny even if it was priced at $30.

If anyone hasn't played TW2 then they should, especially for 4 bucks.

Blackguards, is a game i encourage everyone to give a try, it is in the genre of ff tactics, xcomm, and vandal hearts.

the story is very good and keeps it interesting throughout. The battles are well done with plenty to see and do, and tons of voice work help bring it to life. If there was one slight is that the game does not support controller, which a game of this type does not need that fine of precision. But using an add on like xpadder - works just fine.

Because the game starts out with you and some outlaws - the decisions you make in the game can be pretty funny and wide ranging.

I actually paid 50$ for the collector's edition box, another 40$ for shipping and customs fees and another 5$ for a Steam key when it was on Steam sale, looking at the price now and I don't regret it one single bit. Geralt's bust and the artbook are worth it.

I wish Witcher lore didn't prevent me from using ranged weapons :(

Heaps of people didnt like the Witcher 1. i thought the story and combat in Witcher 1 was just as deep if not deeper than Witcher 2. Really looking forward to Witcher 3. These guys at CDProjekt are awesome game developers.

But even more  important cant wait to build a new PC :)

Saving now for 1.

I want to run ARMA 2 and 3 on max graphics with 200 vs 200 troops on screen without the lag.

Witcher games aren't for everyone. The first one takes awhile to get into, but it was worth it. I enjoyed the second, but it has some issues. I think the first should be played before the second, but given how dated the first is, it could be hard to get into.

If anyone wants to play a great game the Witcher 2 is one . The closest game I think To the Witcher 2 is Demon's Soul's.  Combat wise but the Witcher 2 let you customize your character in 3 different ways Or multiple combinations.   3 skills sets are combat,  magic and alchemy. Also The Witcher 2 has a very deep crafting system. The Witcher 2 has a very deep story maybe to deep.  It's a lot to follow especially if you did not play The Witcher 1. But it doesn't take a way from the game . Just you missed some of the story line.  The Witcher 2 is a amazing game can't wait for The Witcher 3 it's my second most anticipated Game after The Division.

The Witcher II was a very linear and button mashing experience for me. It really didn't have anything I'm looking for in a video game except nice graphics.

I'm sorry if someone is "ready" for Witcher 3 and hasn't played the second at the very least they need to get their shit together.

I paid $40 for this about a year ago and couldn't get into it. Given all the praise it gets, giving it another shot for only $4 sounds pretty good!

I enjoyed the heck out of this game. I just played through it again recently to get ready for W3. (prematurely as it turns out). Try it out if you haven't already. I think you'll enjoy it a lot, as I did.

@jenovaschilldI didn't like Blackguards. The story is cool, but the ending is weak and the battles get very boring after a while. I think turn-based combat is not for me.

@nyran125tk  Witcher 1 is awesome. I actually enjoyed the click system where you have to switch your combat style according to the situation.

@jimmy_russell  Button mashing? You must've died alot because button mashing gets you nowhere in this game unless you set the difficutly to easy..

nyran125tk
nyran125tk

@jimmy_russell  Button mashing? i wasnt button mashing in Witcher 2.  Where do you button mash in Witcher 1 or 2?

For a while you do roll around a bit, until you get use to the combat system, but once i got use to it, it was all timing and magic without any rolling at all. I loved the parrying and blocking system to .

I found the Witcher 1 combat quite interesting. I liked the 3 stances thing.

BuBsay

@jimmy_russell Witcher 2 was much more about character interaction and choice than the actual combat.

Combat in both Witcher games was pretty lackluster but the dialogue, characters and interaction with the world is second to none in both of them.

@Dannystaples14  i played the first 1 to, i liked the first one also. way ahead of its time. I thought the story was even more interesting in Witcher 1.

@vadagar1 Best four bucks you can spend. This game is deep, beautiful and utterly memorable. Almost feels wrong paying so little for this gem.

@BuBsay @jimmy_russell  You guys kidding me, the combat was deep and tactical as hell, I forgot I was playing an RPG. The only issue I had with it was the difficulty spikes were extreme and all over the place for some reason.

evil_snuggles

@BuBsay @jimmy_russell  I don't know what game you played but the wither 2 is no button mashing.  The game has a deep combat system like Demon's Soul's.  Also like Demon's Soul's you can play as a magic user . But you could play The wicher 2 as a alchemist. You don't have to do physical combat at all. The Witcher 2 is a amazing game With a deep crafting system . This game is not linear It's a typical RPG. You most perform certain tasks to advance the story. But in the wither 2 different choices have different outcomes.

How do you get the 360 version. I don't like playing on my PC.

BuBsay
BuBsay

@Gamer_4_Fun @BuBsay@jimmy_russell I guess it depends on your playstyle.

For me every single battle from halfway through Act 1 onward was:

Pop quen

Fast Attack until quen breaks

roll away

pop quen

rinse and repeat. And if you ran out of stamina then just roll until you can pop quen again. Essentially getting a fully upgraded quen sign made the game really easy.

@Gamer_4_Fun @BuBsay @jimmy_russellsell

Yo gamer 4 fun dam I thought it was just me dam.  The last chapter In the Witcher 2 the Enemy went from 0 to 100 right dam. I thought I had made bad character choice.  It got so hard the beginning of the last chapter.  The Witcher 2 is a little unbalance at the beginning of the last chapter. Your weapons And armor from the last chapter are useless at  beginning of the last chapter of the game.  Just common enemies destroy you At the beginning of the last chapter. You have to get all new weapons and armor. But first you have to get to town with your older now weak weapons and armor.

@notfrylock1987 @Bigshotricky  That's what I did. The only games I use a keyboard and mouse for are FPS and RTS. Everything else I just plop on my couch and use an xbox 360 controller. Even Titanfall hahaha

@Bigshotricky

or hook your 360 controller up to your computer? You just plug it in and it takes care of the rest.
