Get a Free Wii U Version of Disney Infinity If You Already Own it for Wii

Disney Infinity matches Skylanders' free Wii to Wii U offer.

If you own the Disney Infinity Starter Pack for the Wii, you can now download the game for the Wii U exclusively through the console's eShop, free of charge.

"Disney Infinity launched one year ago, and in that time the number of Wii U players has significantly expanded," Vice President and General Manager of developer Avalanche Software John Blackburn said in a press release. "Given our commitment to compatibility for our players, we wanted existing Wii owners to be able to experience the Wii U version of the first game for free. With the upcoming launch of the 2.0 Edition of Disney Infinity we want all Nintendo players to experience the game's Wii U functionality."

Disney Infinity 2.0 will release on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Wii U, and iOS on September 24. So almost everything you can play games on but the Wii. Offering Disney Infinity fans the game for free on Wii U seems like a good incentive to get them to buy Nintendo's latest console, and then hopefully Disney Infinity 2.0 and its future Play Sets.

It's also a good way for Disney Infinity to keep up with its main competitor in the toys-to-life category, Skylanders. In late July, publisher Activision announced a similar deal which gave owners of Skylanders Trap Team for Wii a free upgrade to the Wii U version.

I hate to say that.... actually, I don't.... but Disney Infinity can actually ignite more Wii U sales than Just Dance!

The author apparently made an assumption and wrote an entire article on it.  This game is free regardless of if you own any previous version.  Some people that have never played this game before may get excited to try getting into this game now that it is free. This article robs those of people of the proper info and certainly doesn't help the sales tactic being used here by Nintendo.  Do some research.

The game is free even without already owning the wii version. It's just plain... free right now. Go grab it!

(of course you will need the portal thing and a character, so go get some pre-owned ones)

They should give them for free on every platform cuz you need to buy the figurines to have the full experience.

cool but why would any one want this game on PS4? I think this game should only come out on Wii IOS and PS Vita. this game is built for gimmicky style game play such as game pad and touch screens

It is free but you need the portal and the toys to use it. It is worthless without those. I just found that out after trying to play it. On pc they let you play it for free no strings attached. I wish nintendo made it clear this download is useless without the portal.

@xboxonly1 Plus this game didn't get the "dude-bro" certification, which all PS4 and BONE games are required to get.
