Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel tapped for Kane & Lynch movie - Report

Actors could feature in new movie directed by The Italian Job's F. Gary Gray, according to new report.

Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel are in talks to star in the upcoming Kane & Lynch movie, according to a new report from the Hollywood Reporter. Butler is reportedly in discussions to play Kane, while an offer has gone out to Diesel to play Lynch, though his appearance in the film is described as far from a done deal.

The site also reports that The Italian Job director F. Gary Gray is on board to direct the Kane & Lynch movie. Gray and Butler previously worked together on 2009's Law Abiding Citizen. Gray also has a history with Diesel, working together for 2003's A Man Apart.

The Kane & Lynch movie has been a long time coming, in the works since 2007. Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx were previously considered for the lead roles, with Titanic stunt coordinator Simon Crane attached to direct.

Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The A-Team) and Kyle Ward (Machete Kills) wrote the most recent version of the Kane & Lynch film script. No release date has been set for the film.

The original Kane & Lynch game, developed by IO Interactive and released in 2007, follows death row inmates Kane and Lynch, who are sprung from prison only to be spun into a wide-ranging tale of revenge.

Vin Dieselzy, baby! A bitch be sold on this one.....no lie (and YES I am Vin Diesel fangirl, mofos.....deal wit it). Besides, I loved how F. Gary Grey and Vin worked together on 'A Man Apart' so I'm down w/ it.

Man  the people that are bashing Vin Diesel, clearly don't know shit about the guy.

I still say Bruce Willis and Billy Bob Thornton would be the best choices.  Either way, I'd be so happy if Jamie Foxx was out of the picture.  He's a great actor (when he wants to be), but neither of these characters is black.  He was not right for the role at all.

Odd choice for a movie considering mediocre game sales and an even odder choice pairing the two actors. Who knows, maybe it will be good. Everything these guys touch turns to gold... not really.  Although, these actors have a monopoly on shooting guns.

Allegedly they were going to cast Jamie Foxx at one stage, and now they're going for Vin Diesel and Gerard Butler? They need to shoot the casting director.

I always thought Kevin Gage would be a good Cast for Lynch and there are plenty of people suitable for Kane.

Mark Strong (mob boss from Kick-Ass 1) = Kane

Bryan Cranston (Walter White) = Lynch

THERE YOU GO! Hollywood should hire my ass right now. #fucksake

You people saying Vin Diesel is a good actor really need to look up the definition of "good"

Quit making live action video game movies and quit giving Vin Diesel and Gerard Butler work.

to everyone saying this movie bombed already, try acting , since its so easy anyone can do it right? why dont you people look at the credentials of the potentials, they are well suited to play kane and lynch.

Neither of those actors look like or sound like the two characters.  Either way it should be directed by Michael Mann who does these types of movies like Heat and Miami Vice.

Time to google Kane & Lynch and see what this "great news" is all about...

No please no Vin Diesel :( he cant act I swear :( and everyone just thinks he is either Riddick or the guy from the car movies. Bruce Willis was such better choice. Gerald Butler is okay thou he can act.

Gerard butler is ok , but vin is not old enough to play lynch. Why not bruce willis or mickey rourke.

Gerard Butler is an ok choice for Kane. Vin Diesel as Lynch on the other hand, just seems like a really poor choice to me. It seems like casting for Kane will be much easier than finding the right guy to be Lynch. I liked the original plan to have Bruce Willis play Kane. At one point I heard either Billy Bob Thornton or John Malkovich would play Lynch, and thought they were decent choices. Then they picked Jamie Foxx, which never made any sense to me. It seems like all the guys well suited to play Lynch are too old now.

Uh, why? Has anyone played these games?

Originally they were going to play Jamie Fox as Lynch, a black guy. This movie is a flop already...

Personally I can see Russell Crowe as Kane and Paul Giamatti as Lynch. Crowe plays calm very well, plus he can look a bit more tired and disillusioned than Butler. Giamatti plays a good psycho, as seen in Shoot 'em Up.

@R083R70 The last Riddick movie is pretty good and most of the budget came from Vin Diesel's wallet. And those Fast and Furious movies are fun as hell.

Get off your snobby-ass and just have some fun.

@plm3d_basic hardly any game to movie adaptation looks identical, its not in the looks for kane and lynch, its the attitude and atmosphere, butler and vin diesel could make a great movie

@Printul_Noptii im guessing youve never seen boiler room, or a man apart, or knockaround guys, or strays.....you not liking vin diesel doesnt discredit his good acting in such great movies

@Dieofnv  Mikey Rourke would be perfect as Lynch. Diesel is a terrible actor, and not suited at all for this role.

@the_repo_man6754 @R083R70 Every Vin Diesel movie has been atrocious and the reviews back me up on that, granted bad review averages don't necessarily mean particular people won't enjoy them but represents the general quality of the film, and what the hell does it matter if he funded the film? Shit's Shit regardless of where the money comes from.

I have tons of fun and  go into every game/movie without any prejudice and genuinely express my opinions without the goal of trying to appear superior, I'm just expressing my desire for talentless hacks like Diesel to either step up their game or to quit ruining movies; sure just one opinion won't make that happen but if no one ever expressed their opinions how would their desires ever be heard?

It's nice that you enjoy Diesels films, different opinions and happier people are great for the world, but if your so obsessed with him that you start insulting random people online instead of arguing your point maybe you should hop off his d*** for a minute.

starcrafthenry
starcrafthenry

@haze0986 @starcrafthenry I am only one man, so I don't know who exactly "you people" is referring to. Yes, Lynch should be played by a white man since he was a white man in the game. I would be equally confused if Blade had been portrayed by some white guy instead of Wesley Snipes, or if a white woman had played Storm instead of Halle Berry.

starcrafthenry
starcrafthenry

@Ladiesman17 @starcrafthenry Ironside is at least as old as the other guys that I already thought were too old. Every time I see Bryan Cranston, I think of Hal from "Malcom in the Middle." I never watched "Breaking Bad," so I don't know how good he is at acting in a serious role. I'd be willing to give him a chance though.

StokeMeAClipper
StokeMeAClipper

@haze0986 @emperiox Generally I think casting someone with the wrong ethnicity for a role is just bad casting nothing to do with racism. However in the case of Michael Clark Duncan as Kingpin, I can't think of anyone better, black or white for the role. He had just the right qualities as an actor as well as physically.

@tightwad34 @PumpkinBoogie *sigh*.....son, please. It's called me being silly. And I'm WELL over the state and national driving age limits and such. 31 (unfortunately....) to be exact.....anything else you wanna *try* to be a smart-ass about and ask? <_<

@the_repo_man6754 @R083R70 Insulting's great once it's appropriate and you have a reason for doing it, and my insult was in response to you assuming I'm snobby just because I dislike Vin Diesel; If I actually said anything to make it seem like I think I'm better than others just because I'm not a fan I could see where your coming from, but I did not so to call me snobby seems baseless and my response was justified (really I'd say that it is more an observation that your infatuation with Diesel is unhealthy and possibly hurting your character and film taste). I just feel it would've been a lot more constructive to state how you feel Diesel is a better actor than what I think and engaged me in a rational debate rather than jumping straight to telling me to get off my snobby ass and have fun.

I've actually seen most of films either family and or friends and because I wanted a little more background before I played the Chronicles of Riddick video games so I'm speaking from true experience. The reviews I'm talking about are here http://www.metacritic.com/person/vin-diesel, every movie that he's the lead in got sub par reviews, fast five has a 67 average which isn't terrible but as a member of gamespot you know a 6 isn't much to be proud of; I am surprised to find out he was in the classic Iron Giant though he voices the Iron Giant so maybe he'd be more successful if he switched his expertise to voice acting.

Just because he funded it doesn't mean his acting is any better, and I believe it's still appropriate to call him a hack because even though he funded the film he knew that regardless of how he performed there's enough fans of the Riddick franchise, or at least people with nothing better to do on a Friday night, that he would make money.

I honestly do believe that his acting is shit, and as I said reviews don't always determine whether or not you'll enjoy the film because Strange Wilderness is one of my favorite movies and it's one of the worst reviewed movies ever but if I was as snobbish as you say I would watched the film thinking I'm too intelligent for it and would not have enjoyed it, but even though I enjoyed it I can agree with the reviews that while it's one of my personal favorites it's not a high quality experience. With that said I do not know how to reply to the tired senior part, I guess you think that because old people go on about the good ol' days and once their tired they get cranky so they give Vin Diesel films bad reviews?

Either way while I don't agree with your assessment of Vin Diesel's acting quality I find it strangely admirable that someone would go to such great lengths to defend their favorite actor, I'm a pretty big fan of some people's work but if someone were to disagree or even outright ridicule them I'd probably only get upset enough to shrug it off, you stick 100% to your celebrities though and I can oddly respect that.

the_repo_man6754
the_repo_man6754

@R083R70 @the_repo_man6754 LMFAO. You claim that it's wrong to insult other people and here you are INSULTING me. Talk about hypocrite.

And you think Vin Disels movies are atrocious, says who, you? LOL. and what reviews? The same reviews that films like the Fast series and the last Riddick got pretty good reviews?

And why does it matter if if funded them? It shows that he's passionate about film making and he also produced them. How can you call him a "hack" when if he makes the films out of his own desire.

Your problem is that you don't think his films are "shit" it's that your too snobbish to actually enjoy a film. Go back to bed, old man.
