Gears of War gets a Match Made in Hell

Microsoft promotion will give gamers in four cities a chance to see an early screening of new Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel and play Epic's latest shooter on the big screen.

by

Microsoft is kicking off its monthlong Match Made in Hell promotion for the upcoming Xbox 360 shooter Gears of War with a chainsaw-themed double bill of sneak peeks.

On October 4, four AMC theaters--one each in San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles--will host prerelease screenings of New Line Cinema's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. After the film, members of the audience will get the chance to try out Gears of War's infamous chainsaw bayonets on the big screen. Those wishing to attend one of the screenings can register online at the movie's Web site.

The Match Made in Hell promotion will continue with two more events in October: Fright Night and Hollywood Cemetery. Gears of War is rated M for Mature and will retail for $59.99 when it is released November 7. The game's Emergence Day was originally announced as November 12, but Microsoft has since slid the date up.

MIKE_MGOBLUE hehe, well, as good as gears of war might be(we still dont know, it might turn out to be an incredibly nice to look at game with incredibly repetitive content...) but even if it holds up to the promise, its got Twilight Princess to compete with, and if u check, twilight princess is currently rated #1 in here. two types of games, but we'll find out which one will turn out to be the best.

What a great way to get more people to see the new Texas film, maybe they decided to do it cos the film is crap and they are running out of money! Go Gears of War!

Gears of War will be Game of the Year, just like it won all of those Best Game of the Show awards at this years Electronic Entertainment Expo!

You know a game's going to be great when they have to slide UP the release date instead of DOWN. :)

Heh, Brute Force. There's a lot of people comparing Gears of War to that flop. The difference? Brute Force was hyped primarily by the public (i.e. YOU) and retailers. Sure, the same can be said for GOW, but this game also has an incredibly strong backing from publications and Microsoft. Brute Force didn't have nearly this kind of press coverage or company support. Oh, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning will probably suck. It'll probably suck HARD. But a chance to play GOW on that large of a screen should be pretty thrilling for a lot of people. Would I go? Probably not. I have no interest in the movie (I've booed the previews I've seen in the theater...people laughed...a lot!) and can wait to play the game. Besides, playing games (particularly shooters) on that size of a screen isn't as fun as you might think. I've played Halo on a 200" screen (a beautiful/expensive projector, some ironed white bedsheets and a really big garage did the trick) and it was incredibly difficult. Your eyes have to move so much so quickly that they begin to hurt after a while. However, fighting games are amazing! Soul Calibur 2 was AWESOME on that screen! :)

You know, I'm damn tired of Atlanta getting left out of these things. We are bigger than Frisco anyways. Why do it in two places so close to each other anyways?

I caught the Texas Chainsaw prequel at Fantastic Fest in Austin a week or so back. It's terrible, although if you liked the first remake, you'll probably enjoy this one as well.

WTF is Boston At? And 2 cities in California?

They are only doing it in cities with the biggest newspapers, and television coverage. Especially newspapers with the largest entertainment coverage. Microsoft doesn't care about the fans themselves. They just want the press so that the coverage will be read all around the nation and some of the rest of the world. This is a business decision not a opportunity for the fans to try the game.

Who care's about The Texas Cheese Cake Massacre. To play the game of the year on a movie screen HOLY CRAP I would pay 9.75 just to do that for 20 minutes. Why do we have to be tortured like this can't they just have an event with out us being forced to watch this retched movie.

I never realized that the remake did so well to warrant a prequel. I was kind of curious why there were giant posters in every subway here in NY, I guess this cross promotion may account for some of New Line's newfound wealth. 39 Days until the Revised Emergence Day, which was most quietly pushed forward.

To Those Who Question My Comments I am merely stating my opinion, you might like Gears of War and you might like the Prequel to the Remake of the Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre But I know I won't... And Death1234567890... Lay off the coffee or Moutain Dew, and try not to be so... EXTREME!!!!

If this isn't a gimmich I don't know what is. Unbelieveable. Kill two birds with one stone I guess. Advertise and generate hype for both the movie and the game.

The jump of the release date is nice. This game will be huge.
