Gears of War Creator Cliff Bleszinski Releases Concept Art for Next Game

A massive storm descends on Hollywood in the first piece of official art released for Boss Key's upcoming PC shooter Project BlueStreak.

by

Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski has already talked at length about his upcoming free-to-play PC shooter currently titled Project BlueStreak, but when will we get to see it? While we wait for gameplay footage, a piece of concept art released last night will have to do.

The art shows a sprawling city being ravaged by a mighty storm of rain and fierce lightning. In the foreground, we see what appears to the Hollywood sign, which would suggest the city in question in Los Angeles. But if that's the case, what are those rivers?

For more on Project BlueStreak, which is only the working title, be sure to read this post that rounds up some of the most interesting things Bleszinski said during his Reddit AMA yesterday.

Project BlueStreak, a free-to-play multiplayer arena shooter for PC, is Bleszinski's first new project since leaving Epic Games in 2012. The game is in development at startup studio Boss Key Productions in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Soo many hypocrites , i bet most of you play F2P games on PS4 and you'l gonna play Planetside 2 also when it'l arrive to PS4. There are less and less P2W games, about grindfeast, Don't tell me that Cod,BF and many more shooters don't need grind to Unlock everything ooh yes you can unlock it with 1 click that will cost extra 10$ not to talk about overpriced  60$ for game .

Could gamespot please send all further news articles about Bleszinski's game to my personal email with the title 'cliffy b' in it. That way I can just set my spam filter to move them all into trash, thank you once again Eddie Makuch for another edge of your seat article.

The only reason they keep up with this guy (Cliffy B) is because he along with Bungie and a few other companies started Online Multiplayer for Consoles.. So yeah hes kinda a big deal, When it comes to games for consoles atleast.

Really? Another article on this guy. Is that 5 articles in 3 days?

Only quakke is interested in this guy - in a creepy way.

I see that the Gears Of War aesthetics kinda continue in this game but aslong as it's fun and fastpaced, i'm down with it. Looking forward to seeing more stuff in the future. Keep it up.

Cliff Bleszinski "I don't want my creative legacy to be just Gears" ...

"Here's yet another shooter"

Bravo Cliffy B. OK, maybe I'm being a little harsh on the guy and I don't have enough information on this new project to pass judgment, but still, I feel underwhelmed by all this and that piece of concept art hasn't changed my mind.

Free to play, first person, arena shooter? .... no thanks.

This screams tedious grinding or pay for microtransactions.

I find it difficult to get excited about a Free to Play game.  Charge something for it Cliff, so we don't automatically assume it will be very limited without money.  If your game is good people will pay the upfront cost!

Wonder if he is going to hire Phil Fish to help with this

I've never seen Gamespot give so much attention to a free to play game.

Hey look guys! This new free to play game released their first concept art!

when has Gamespot ever done that before?

@jack00 Why? Passing judgement on something you haven't tried yet? Typical.

@prime_l Unreal Tournament and Gears of War are like NIGHT and DAY. Arena shooter is nothing like Gears of War. You start taking infinite cover in an arena shooter and you can kiss your buttocks a byebye. Just incase you didn't know.. UT is an arena shooter and this Project BlueStreak is also gonna be an arena shooter, not an covershooter like Gears or CoD.

quakke
quakke

@liquidbutter Why you not bitching about all these CoD and Titanfall articles that we have coming day after day? (atleast the Titanfall launch. it had like 60 articles in 1 month) Finally when something different and interesting comes, you are bitching like a screwed hooker. Sheesh..

@Rushaoz @jack00 Most people assume anything free to play is pay to win, which is usually the case honestly.

I wouldn't go as far as night and day. Maybe evening and night.

But that's not my point, if he wants to move away from guns and the idea he's just the 'Gears guy', maybe he should have been a little more creative than going back to the arena shooter genre? A genre that's already over saturated. Maybe an RPG or RTS? Anything but, 'more guns'...

liquidbutter
liquidbutter

@quakke @liquidbutter For one thing, Cod and Titanfall are huge releases. Most anticipated, and Gamespot's coverage of them is pretty normal. However, coverage of free-to-play games? Not very often from Gamespot. This is highly irregular. In  fact, I'm pretty sure this is the first time they've ever made an article about first ever concept art revealed for a free to play game.

liquidbutter
liquidbutter

@NiteX partially true. But more importantly free to play games are notoriously known for being grindfests. Grinding isn't fun. It's designed to not be fun so you are more compelled to pay.

@prime_l
"than going back to the arena shooter genre? A genre that's already over saturated."

Then you clearly don't know. Arena shooters are not oversaturated, FPS subgenre called Modern Military Shooters are. For christsakes, last somewhat good arena shooter came in 2007 (Unreal Tournament 3) and after that we have received TWO games which failed because didn't capture the arena shooter feeling (Nexuiz and Shootmania). CoD, BF and Titanfall (MMS) is not arena shooter. Arena shooter is fastpaced like UT99 and Quake 3 and requires skill and resource management. You don't regen or AimDownSights in an arena shooter because it's that fastpaced. You stop and you're dead.
