Xbox 360 games Gears of War 1-3 and Judgment are apparently proving popular on Xbox One through the console's backwards compatibility program. Rod Fergusson of developer The Coalition said this weekend that those four games are among the nine most popular backwards-compatible games.

He shared the quote as part of the Gears of War ESL finals on Sunday afternoon, as reported by DualShockers. It's unclear what the other five most popular Xbox 360 games are.

The Gears of War franchise is basically synonymous with Xbox, so it's not altogether surprising that Gears of War 1-3 and Judgment would be popular in the backwards compatibility program. Plus, everyone who bought an early copy of Gears of War Ultimate Edition received free copies of those four games.

Also during this weekend's broadcast, it was confirmed that Gears of War 4 is now slated to arrive in "fall 2016," a change from its previous "holiday 2016" release window. The more than 1 million people who bought Gears of War Ultimate Edition get to play first.

In addition, Microsoft said that 45 percent of Ultimate Edition players are new to the Gears of War franchise.
