At the ongoing Game Developers Conference, GameSpot caught up with Nikolay Baryshnikov from Moscow-based game publisher 1C to speak about its forthcoming projects, one of which was revealed to be a World War II-themed 3D real-time strategy game from 1C:Maddox Games. The developer's recent flight combat simulation, IL-2 Sturmovik, earned widespread acclaim and numerous awards, including GameSpot's award for Best Simulation of 2001. But 1C:Maddox Games is now shifting gears from the extremely realistic IL-2 Sturmovik to what was succinctly described as a highly accessible and approachable 3D RTS set during World War II. The game will actually use a modified version of the 3D engine used for IL-2 Sturmovik.

1C:Maddox Games' RTS will be officially unveiled at the forthcoming E3 in May. It may be among 1C's first publishing ventures in the United States (the company is still exploring its options), though the company's first release on these shores will be Jazz and Faust, a graphical adventure game. We'll soon have a video interview with Baryshnikov in which he discusses these games and more.
