SAN FRANCISCO--The E3 Media & Business Summit might be determined to downsize its previously mammoth video game show extravaganza, but it seems that every other event is just getting bigger than ever. The Tokyo Game Show, Leipzig Game Convention, and Consumer Electronics Show all reported their attendance being up over the previous year.

This year's GDC was no exception: 18,000-plus people attended this year's show, up from the 16,000 who popped by last year.

There were more than 400 sessions, booths from over 300 exhibitors and sponsors, and a new networking platform, myGDC, was launched for attendees this year.

GameSpot was on hand to bring gamers full coverage of the event, which included keynote speeches from futurist Ray Kurzweil, and Microsoft , which used the event to announce Gears of War 2. There were also packed sessions featuring Lionhead's Peter Molyneux talking about upcoming role-playing game Fable 2, the annual rants session, and a Portal Post Mortem.

Next year's GDC will return to San Francisco's Moscone Center and run from March 23-27.
