GDC 07: Elite Beat Agents to groove again

Keiichi Yano announces sequel to first game; game will be released in Japan sometime "this year."

SAN FRANCISCO--iNiS Corporation, creators of quirky rhythm game Elite Beat Agents, is currently working on a sequel to the game's original Japanese version, titled Moero! Nekkestsu Rhythm Damashi - Osu! Tatakae Ouendan 2.

"Yeah, it's a long title," laughed Yano, as he made the announcement during his talk on the creative process behind the original Elite Beat Agents on the Nintendo DS. "It basically translates to Burn Hot-Blooded Rhythm Soul!, so we basically took all of the best words from our [other] games."

The upcoming game will have new features, and a couple of the characters have been revamped, Yano revealed. He said, "We worked really hard. We tried to fix a lot of the things that people blogged about, and there are more features for the hardcore audience, so look forward to that."

Yano showed some characters and screens from the new game and revealed that this time round, the original team of agents would not be the only ones. "The Ouendan are going to be faced with a little bit of a new challenge. There will be a rival Ouendan." Players would also play the rival gang, along with others, Yano said cryptically.

Yano wouldn't comment on when (or if) the game was likely to find its way to the West, except to say of the localization process, "I hope we can do a better job next time." He also wouldn't be drawn to comment on whether the new game would take advantage of the DS online play and microphone.

Sorry to all the people pimpin out Ouendan, but EBA > Ouendan, I'd rather have english pop than japenese techno "tryhard" rock.

oooOOOoo I hope they will make an EBA sequal too! It's such an awesome game.

Ouendan is it's own seperate game from Elite Beat Agents. EBA has the Ouendan concept with new characters and songs. It's a complete revamp of another game using the same engine. Somewhere out there, someone is trying to convince people that Chex Quest is part of the Doom series.

Well, hopefully we'll see an American version as well... Only lacking the horrible, horrible modern pop music that was included. Seriously, who got paid for that?

Moero! Nekkestsu Rhythm Damashi - Osu! Tatakae Ouendan 2 A possible finalist for the category "The most long-winded game title"?

To Perseid: Why would EBA be the second game in the series, if you seemed to state that they were different games?

I still have yet to buy this game. There's so many DS games I want to buy. :(

Some have already said this, now I'm gonna try. :) Elite Beat Agents was not the first game in the series. Osu! Tatake! Ouendan! was the first game released in Japan only with Japanese songs. Due to licensing issues Ouendan will NEVER be released in the US. Elite Beat Agents was the second game, released only in the US with western songs. For the same reason EBA will never be released in Japan. Now Ouendan 2 will be the third game in the series and will never be released outside of Japan. There will probably be an EBA 2, but that has not been announced.

New Ouendan? Sounds good to me. I imagine this means a new EBA also. Honestly, between the two games there are songs I like more or less than others, but overall I just like the idea of the Elite Beat Agents better. I mean, a street gang in Japan I could see randomly showing up to inspire greatness in people (sarcasm FYI) but the idea of a secret organization which replies to the pleas of people with dancing agents? Thats just great. Also I liked the final stage for EBA more. Never before and never again shall "Jumping Jack Flash" instill such a dramatic feeling.

Will this game rock? YOU BET KID! :P

Awsome, I can't wait! Even if I have to import it, I have to get this game somehow. Ouendan and EBA were both awsome games.

Ouendan is seriuosly one of the best rhythm games of all time (although i really hated all tracks of EBA) guess.. i have to spend another 60 bucks for import again..

If EBA were to be on the Wii, I would definitely buy it or even crazier, promote it by putting a tattoo on my head. Now that would be a dumb idea; I mean the tattoo thing.

Dude, I am ranked "5 star commander: Lovin' Machine" in EBA. If they don't announce a true EBA 2 for the states soon, I'm going to die because I just don't have anything left to do in the first one, I need to boogy down, and there's nothing that compares to EBA. Not even dancing in a black suit with sunglasses on. Trust me, I tried.

The original Elite Beat Agents was a fun, accessible game. I'm expecting good things out of the sequel.

Re: GSR3556 I here ya, man. Your not completely ignored. Personally, I would never compare the greatness of Oendan to that piece of crap EBA.

GSR3556 quoted for truth. The same happened when Telltale announced they were hiring X360 programmers and Gamespot put on the front page "Sam & Max on Xbox 360". They're jumping to conclusions too often.

GSR3556
GSR3556

This'll probably get ignored, but I must say it. OUENDAN AND EBA ARE TWO DIFFERENT GAMES. Ouendan 2 has been announced. EBA 2 has not. EBA uses the Ouendan engine, but other than that the two are totally different. That being said, Ouendan 2 = Woo.

Here's a suggestion: Implement some kind of "create-a-song" feature. We could either download mp3s into the cart from our coimputer or use the mic to record sounds. Then, we could randomly tap on the screen while the song is playing (therefore creating the beats), and then press start to end the song. Let's not forget to, of course, pick a theme to go along with it.

i hope the localization isnt too good. being weird and funny was one of EBAs best qualities. I just hope a song as bad as Sk8tr Boi (or however you spell it) isnt on this game.

Actually at this stage this does not hint an EBA2 as well (though it's likely), in any case for those of us in the UK, importing the works out cheaper than buying one new so there is nothing to loose. *Dons Ouendan cosplay*

Sweet! I loved Elite Beat Agents. I know they had to "westernize" the original game for America, though I secretly wished they could have included a track or two from japan's Ouedan. Even as a secret unlockable song would be ok with me.

I'd love to see them Westernize it and deliver an EBA 2. The DS is pretty well-suited to rhythm games. Maybe I'll even see about importing Ouendan 2 as well; already got the first.

Dirk13 gamestop has misconstrued the comments. Elite Beat Agents 2 hasn't been confirmed. Elite Beat Agents isn' a localization but a brand new game that improved upon Ouendan. They couldn't use the Japanese songs because guess what licensing and also Japanese songs wouldn't sell the game. They won't be bringing Ouendan 2 to America. Instead we will get another brand new Elite Beat Agents game with different stories songs. Bother to read the fracking IGN report which has far more detail then gamespot described.
