GameStop Throwing Destiny Midnight Launch Parties Across the US

More than 4,100 of the company's US stores will host midnight launch events next week to mark the release of Bungie's new game.

To mark the release of Destiny next week, retailer GameStop is opening thousands of US stores--around 4,100 in all--for midnight launch events. On the evening of September 8, you can visit one of the stores to take part in the revelry, which culminates with the game going on sale at midnight.

To help you pass the time, GameStop's Destiny midnight launch parties will include various activities, including contests and performances by local bands, and you can also enjoy food trucks.

In a statement, GameStop executive Bob Puzon reiterated that Destiny is the retailer's most preordered new IP in history, and said the game "is going to deliver a tremendous gaming experience."

If you don't feel like driving out to a GameStop store, you can also buy Destiny digitally through the Xbox Marketplace or PlayStation Store. And because both platforms now support pre-loading, you can download the game right now and start playing right away, come launch.

Destiny launches September 9 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Earlier today, Activision released a rather-excellent live-action trailer for the game (above) that uses Led Zeppelin's famous tune, "Immigrant Song." If you're into football and plan on watching the NFL season opener tonight, you'll see a 90-second version of the ad sometime during the game, which starts at 8:30 PM EDT on NBC.

Great quality live action trailer. I would love to see a full length film of the same.

GameStop using that ripped off money that they steal from the gamers. A game that cost 59.99 they'll give you like 16.00 dollars. It was this guy selling his p4 controller brand new in the box, gamestop guy said "take it out of the box and you'll get 16 dollars". Stuff like that get me mad.

It's funny how every Destiny article I read, in the comments, for every 3 ppl that like or can't wait for Destiny to come out, there's 1 douce bag who has to act like he's to cool or "in the know" to like it also. Stop being transparent bro, just cuz daddy didn't hug u as a kid doesn't mean u gotta ruin it for the rest of us. I'm looking forward to Destiny. Come meet me on the field Beeeeyotch!!, NorCalNemesis on PS4.

It's kinda like the new release of the Star Wars movies with Jar Jar Binks in them...but only a select few with standards and common sense that actually saw the beta for what it was knows how bad Destiny really is.

It's sad to see all these automatons waiting so long, so unaware as to the level of disappointment that comes their way on the 9th. Despite my knowledge, I can't change Destiny...but I can laugh at it.

I think this is going to be the best game ever made and I haven't played it yet. They did a great job with the hype.

For all you people taking Septeber 10th off to play this, just don't.  Something network related issue will fail and the standard excuse will be, "We weren't prepared to have everyone log in at once.".  Just sayin'....

Alot of hype for this game. I remain hopefully optimistic.

Contrary to popular belief the mere act of getting hyped for something is not necessarily bad or childish. it provides satisfactory feelings and emotions and makes us actively seek out the object we desire, thus providing exercise and encouraging liveliness. No wonder ancient civilization were so productive and active even though most did not accomplish anything spectacular.

Another subject that unfortunately is not common knowledge is the importance of the phenomenon called the Hype ''Train''. This bizarre act involves a group of people creating a straight line and grabbing each others bottoms and chanting words associated with the object they desire, in turn creating a chain reaction of rushing adrenaline in each person in the so called "train".

Keep in mind that the word "train" was only used after the invention of the said machine. Some say the inventor of train-Richard Trevithick-was inspired by this exercise and used the Latin word for it (tranicus hypus) to name his invention. other accounts of this activity has been seen in old civilizations such as ancient Persia, china and the Mayans, respectively called "اغراق امیز", "誇大"and ch'a'ik iik'.

other modern accounts can be seen in....

I'll be at one of these "midnight release parties," but I'm positive my local Gamestop won't be doing a darn thing to make it a lively party. It'll be just a bunch of gaming nerds hanging out inside the store. Or more likely it'll outside the store as they've recently stopped letting people inside during midnight releases. I can guarantee you I won't be waiting at Gamespot all night long. I've got better things to do.

@grtdziner1013 I like to sell some games after I get bored with them or beat them a couple of times. Can't sell digital crap. I can sell used games on Craigslist though. :D Then this true gamer can buy new games and sell those down the road too.

@Gravity_Slave because you didn't enjoy destiny beta/won't enjoy destiny, that means everyone shouldn't have enjoyed destiny beta/won't enjoy destiny? I can laugh at you, because your line of thinking is quite flawed, not much common sense you were talking about earlier is involved, although you're free to think that way, go for it!

@Gravity_Slave  That's a pretty convincing looking pile of sh*t. If it looks just like the other 6000 cheeseburgers you've eaten in your lifetime, chances are, it'll taste pretty similar. If it looks better (As Destiny does to me and a lot of other people), it will probably be great.

@irishrizo So you are telling me that Destiny WILL NOT cost 60 dollars on September 9th 2014 at midnight? And it WILL be on sale??? I am confused, I have never seen a major game go on sale right away....they ALWAYS want to clean your wallet out quick.

xisiuizado
xisiuizado

@tsmech88 @irishrizo
An item being on sale doesn't necessarily mean a discount. The word sale means available for purchase, as well as its more common usage meaning a discount.

93ChevyNut
93ChevyNut

@rjh_24 @celestioushawk @93ChevyNut I'm not saying every game will fail on release day, but there's certainly been a lot of evidence to support my statement.  Diablo 3, SimCity, and GTA Online come to mind first, but I'm sure there are others.  I'm just saying I don't think it's a good idea to burn a precious vacation day just to have your system of choice not be able to connect.

celestioushawk
celestioushawk

@rjh_24 @celestioushawk @93ChevyNut I'm not saying it will have problems, i'm just stating that he is not hating and there is a possibility of a server overload. I don't really know much about these things though.

tsmech88
tsmech88

@xisiuizado @tsmech88 @irishrizo No, what you are trying to say is "for sale", in this article it says "on sale". I know what sale means I am not stupid lol.

xisiuizado
xisiuizado

@tsmech88

I didn't think or call you stupid. I thought that, perhaps, english isn't your first language and that was the reason for the confusion.

Anyway, on sale is the same as for sale. It's all in the context.
