GameStop acquires wireless company Spring Mobile

Retailers buys AT&T retailer Spring Mobile for undisclosed sum; more details coming in 2014.

GameStop has purchased AT&T wireless retailer Spring Mobile, CEO Paul Raines announced today during an earnings call. The acquisition will help GameStop move into the wireless market, Raines said.

Further details regarding GameStop's acquisition of Spring Mobile will be announced in 2014.

Spring Mobile is an AT&T wireless retailer based in Salt Lake City that operates 150+ stores across the United States and employs around 650 people. The company acquired A-Link Wireless in September, which will also join GameStop as part of the acquisition.

An acquisition price was not specified. GameStop today reported better-than-expected earnings for its latest quarter, hauling $2.11 billion in revenue and a profit of $68.6 million.

I honestly don't know how to feel about this. It'll at least be interesting to see what GameStop does with its newest acquisition.

Ok. This feels like a silly purchase by Game Stop. Mobile gaming will never overcome console/PC gaming. EVER!

Also, does anyone else understand why the BF4 video review is at the bottom of this story?? It feels completely out of place here.

This shit is ridiculous. GameStop screws over gamers almost as bad as the NCAA screws over student athletes lmao

How does Spring Mobile and Gamestop relate to one another?  I'm confused.

This probably has more to do with games looking like they are going to go digital, and not allow for used game sales. Evolve or die.

@daikkenaurora12 They're going to start selling cell phones in the store.

@focuspuller  Maybe thats why they buy so many used phones and tablets.

Side Note: Salt Lake City seems like a boring ass place.
