Once more the realization dawns on me that I am not missing anything by not having an XBox.

Checked it out last night. I like it.  One bit of feedback for Kinect voice, the shows title needs to be short and sweet.  Right now it's a long sentence, xbox on the spot something something something really long title.

Funny I found the app before seeing it was reported here on the site. I was pretty shocked to see all of that content already available for viewing on my television and the likes of Kevin VanOrd and Chris Watters blown up to my TV Screen. Pretty cool stuff. I agree with @RBwd as well. You emotional conspiracy theorist and fangirls know where you can go. Thanks GameSpot, love that you guys are able to keep up with the times.

I wonder how this will play out, with Gamespot making money for reviews and Microsoft making it illegal for anyone to use their game content online to make money.  No Halo 4 review?

is anyone else noticing that it's slow?

Oh, never mind that. Going trough the list of the countries where it actually is available, it becomes clear that it's a gamespot app only for the small handfull of countries where Xbox actually rules the market.

TigusVidiks
TigusVidiks

why is a free app  country locked? Don't tell me it's only available here in those countries because a quick browse in the apps and there it was. I can access it. But then it doesn't let me run it or download it. So basically, it's locked for users outside those countries, even though it's a free app.

Lol. What's with this Gamespot/Microsoft conspiracy? "Xbox exclusives get high scores!" Yes, because Halo, Gears of War and Mark of The Ninja are all awesome. "Gamespot doesn't give PS3 exclusives special treatment!" MGS4:10/10, won Gamestop's GOTY award. Demon's Souls:9/10 and won the GOTY. Heavy Rain:8.5/10. God of War trilogy:Each game got a 9 or higher. Give the complaining a rest, people. I'm sure Gamespot would have a PS3 app if Sony even had an official online service.

Starsailor_IT

as the comment before mine said it, this confirms Gamespot close relationship with Microsoft. We understood it already by the reviews and IE9 ads inside the site anyway..

This confirms the bias and favorism towards the American consoles...

GS always gone hand to hand with M$, giving higher grades to its games and hyping it, heck even now its the first on the list.

That was expected, but now they have gone too far with the bashing of Japan developed games...

This just shows me how much of a joke Live is. I have to buy gold to get these apps, yet I can just go on my computer and access these things for no additional cost. Plus, if these apps were on PS3 they would be free, just like every other app.

So now that we know that GameSpot has something resembling a competent programming team, I have to wonder why the normal website doesn't have a modern search bar/search engine. You know, with search suggestions and stuff like that. What is this, 2005?

That would be funny if they put up "It Came From Xbox Live!" up trashing the crappy Indie games.

@thereal-15-cent dude don't even go there. Nobody is discussing the merits of those games. People are just stating what any gamespot user for more than a year easily can see for himself: - Under the same conditions, xbox games always rate higher on gamespot.   I would even say that usually, xbox games rate better on gamespot than on other sites, in oposition to PS3 games, that averagely rate worse than other sites.

@pound-u that's the wrong way of looking at it. MS gives Gold subscribers extra things. Not putting these things behind a subscription to get people to pay. The thing, the only thing that MS use to get people to pay is online gaming. I'm pretty sure they are well aware everything else they offer Gold subs is free from a pc browser.

FallenOneX
FallenOneX

@pound-u They are still free apps, you just have to pay for the service that allows their usage. Just like you said, you can always go to your PC and do it for free, after you pay your internet bill.

tjoeb123
tjoeb123

@pound-u This logic (of paying for free apps) makes no sense.  IF IT'S ALREADY AVAILABLE FOR FREE, WHY CHARGE US FOR IT?!

And for Netflix, well, WHY CHARGE EXTRA?!

If anything, they should be charging like $2/mo ($25/yr) for multiplayer and things like that.  NOT APPS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FREE.

@GunBladeHero Maybe it's because you are in the American continent, I don't know, I'm speculating here. What I know is that I can't download it with either of my accounts, portuguese or UK. So, it's related with my location, Portugal.

 @TigusVidiks

Personally, I rarely see a game get a better score based on it's console. Gamespot usually gives the same score to games that are on both consoles. They even give the PS3 version a better score sometimes. My point is that Gamespot doesn't treat PS3 games any differently than 360 games. Gamespot gives more attention to Microsoft than Sony, I'll give you that. But they don't discriminate in terms of rating games.

Hodge996
Hodge996

@TigusVidiks  @thereal-15-cent Or, the Xbox versions do actually run slightly better on Xbox...?!  As a long time PlayStation fan, I still find myself playing/buying most multi-plat games on Xbox.  That's not me saying "Xbox is better than PS3" or any of that fanboy shit, it's down to the developers who usually (though not always) develop their games for Xbox then port to the PS3... it's annoying, but true.

Out of interest though Tigus, what multi-platform games have a higher score on Xbox than PS3?  From what I've seen, even when in the review they say that a game runs slightly better on Xbox, the PS3 still gets the same score.... if anything, that's PS3 favouritism isn't it?

SolidTy
SolidTy

@Flyus  @pound-u I disagree. That's the right way to look at it. The way you are looking at it is the way that M$ wants you to look at it and continue to subscribe.

pound-u

 @FallenOneX

But my interent service provider isn't going to charge me again to access these apps. Nice try with your failed logic.

Hvac0120
Hvac0120

@FallenOneX  @pound-u Xbox is the only service that charges you for access free 3rd party services over an already-paid-for internet connection.

You can watch netflix on a $15 DVD player without any additional charge other than for the hardware and an existing internet connection.

It's not that big of a convenience to have these apps on Xbox as opposed to a computer or tablet.

I don't see how access to free internet services adds any value to for an XBL Gold member.

Besides giving gamers access to free services (such as Online Multiplayer, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, ect..) I'm not sure there's much else you get out of XBL Gold. Early demos? Ok. Access to Betas? Yippee?! Can participate in "special" contests? Meh. Access to ESPN? Wow. Ok - so this adds value for sports fans.

Point is that Microsoft charges for XBL, but doesn't really offer anything of value in return that you can't get somewhere else for free.

For all the things XBL does right there are 100 things it does wrong. The biggest offense is putting free 3rd party services behind a paywall.

Hvac0120
Hvac0120

@Hodge996 @thereal-15-cent @TigusVidiks this all likely has to do with money. Since the app is behind the XBL Gold paywall, Gamespot probably gets a bit of money for every member that downloads and launches the app. Probably wouldn't be the case on PS3 or Wii. I don't see any conflicts with Gamespot game ratings. The worst offense I see on the site is likely not on purpose. When you click on a review posted to the home page banner. You are directed to the Xbox review of the game. Most of the time it is exactly the same as the PS3 review. But the branding on the site and marketing is geared towards Xbox customers. Other marketing issues you have come down to who is paying for that ad space. It's open for anybody who pays GameSpot enough money.

MajinSquall
MajinSquall

@pound-u  @thereal-15-cent and even if it had to be on a paid service they could just make it for PS+ all i'm saying is there is NO reason this couldn't be on PSN unless the rumours of Gamespot being on the MS payroll are true (i don't think they are but you never know)

FallenOneX
FallenOneX

@pound-u not the point, I was responding to what you wrote, not what you meant.

@Hvac0120 "You can watch netflix on a $15 DVD player without any additional charge other than for the hardware and an existing internet connection."

And the monthly Netflix fee.
