Into the breach, or close the wall with our dead, friends! Registration begins at 3 p.m. Pacific on November 7 for GameSpot's Team Fortress 2 Mutilation Madness tournament, presented by AT&T. The Mutilation Madness tourney is open to all registered GameSpot users, and squares off 32 teams with seven players to a side in either capture the flag or control point mode, depending on the selected map. Matches begin November 12 at 12 p.m. Pacific, and the finals will be broadcast live on Tournament TV on November 16 at 4 p.m. Pacific.

Each member of the victorious team will receive a $200 Best Buy gift card as well as a one-year GameSpot Total Access subscription, which offers access to exclusive prize tournaments, beta contests, high-speed downloads, and an ad-free experience on the site. Runners-up won't walk away empty-handed because they'll also receive a free year of Total Access to GameSpot.

The Team Fortress 2 tourney is open to any registered GameSpot user who is over the age of 17 and a resident of the US. Head over to the Mutilation Madness tournament page to register and get a complete rundown of the rules. Check out GameSpot's previous coverage for more on the multiplayer-centric pack-in to Valve's highly acclaimed Orange Box.

7v7 is stupid. It should only be 6v6. L2Scrim

Why 7 vs. 7? There's 9 classes, there should at least be 9 a team.

This is awesome. Why doesn't Gamespot UK do anything like this?

@sciss0rz Actually the $200 would be LESS for Canadians because our $ is worth more right now.

Guys, the free account slots opened. It was just a server glitch, but now the slots are opening.

Technical errors occur, I found this out in the last tournament. You'll live, besides, those who are subscribers should get first dibs anyway. Also, the spots will not fill up as quickly as you think. Most of the spots that are going are clans who sign up at the same time. 40% of the people will not even show for the Qualifiers..

Regardless of it being a mistake or not, those who were inconvenienced by this misinformation have a right to be upset. I don't see the correlation you're trying to make between "only human" and "no consequences". The mistake wasted a lot of peoples' time, and in some cases, money. It's perfectly reasonable that there would be a backlash.

Its kinda hard to chill when all I can do is watch all the spots get taken and am unable to do anything about it...

Did you ever think that...it may be a mistake. NO! But humans dont make mistakes right? Wrong. It has been stated by Jody a few times that the remaining tourneys of 2007 are all FREE! So chill out..

Whoever wrote the misleading advertisement should get fired. This makes GS look lame the shame is on you

Even with the change to the FAQ, it is still a first come first serve basis-no discrepancy between premium and free ANYWHERE.

Yeah, it appears it is set up for Premium members for now. I hope it gets fixed.

Do you have to be a paying member to join or something?

Well the message has been changed since registration opened, but it did indeed refer to registrants as both Free and Paid subscribers. This was either an unfortunate oversight or a pretty low move.

What the F***? It says everywhere that all you have to be is a registered GS member. Then when they try to join, your gonna eff them over and just try to get upgrades. That's low GS, really low.

It's for only for the PC version just like it should be.

"The Tournament is open to all GameSpot Registered users. You must be 17 years of age or older and a resident of the 50 United States (including the District of Columbia) or Canada (excluding the province of Quebec). For further information about GameSpot's residency requirements for this Tournament, please go to question 2.3 of this FAQ." * I have an account, therefore I am registered. False advertisement. *Taken from the FAQ page: http://www.gamespot.com/tournaments/tf2-nov07/faq.php

Sorry console user, it make sense that its for PC only. Vavle game belongs to the PC. Wouldn't be cool if they were to play it on the 360. It'll just be like "We playing Halo 3 on the PC" when it was born for the 360. Every games is built on the PC to w/e console anyway. Anyway whether your from U.S to Australia, knowing Team Fortress 2™ This is going to be one hella of a dynamic match! Can't wait to see the reaction on Jeff face. "Do running with a knife make your run faster in this game???" xD
