GameSpot GamePlay Episode 35: Drink, Hamburger, and Afro Pick

Join Kevin, Tom, Chris, and Tyler to hear them discuss Metal Gear, tanks with meat legs, and octopus ladies--and all in the same sentence!

GameSpot GamePlay Episode 35: Drink, Hamburger, and Afro Pick

In this fully unedited episode of GameSpot GamePlay, great vegetable superhero El Beeto swoops in to save host Kevin VanOrd from certain humiliation at the hands of Tom Mc Shea, Chris Watters, and Tyler Winegarner. Up for discussion: Why did Kojima give David Hayter the shaft? Is Battlefield 4 really going to give you all of the feels? Why is New Zealand not called New Zed-land?

We have no answers, but we sure like asking questions.

I only signed in to say that the cover guy looks way too much like Matt le Blanc.  That is all.

I don't know why he used the word stylized.  From an artistic standpoint stylized would usually refer to an engine like Unreal because people and objects have a unique look that does not necessarily reflect what is true to life.  Frostbite I thought has a very realistic look.

Oh yes.  There IS a lot to say about BioShock.  Good and bad.  I for one can't wait to hear your perspectives on that game.  Even though I can't be sure they will all be completely objective.  But that's ok.  lol

I understand Kevin's point, regarding the Metacritic rankings for lesser known sites, but, I don't know, it really rubbed me the wrong way, wrt how condescending he was being during that segment.

Like, yes, of course Gamespot and Giant Bomb are more popular, but, I'm not sure that gives you cart blanche to stick your nose up at these other sites. Granted, you didn't say anything particularly about the sites, and, I understand it was more of a comment on Metacritic, but, just the attitude in your voice was a little pompous. McShea joked about it, but, it honestly did sound a bit like sour grapes.

Anyways, I still love the show, and, look forward to the next week. I just felt like getting that off my chest. I don't write for those sites or anything, but, I'd feel kinda lousy if I did and was listening to this episode.

Edit: also, still nothing but love for Kevin! Just a bit of feedback is all. :)

I feel like I just wandered out of the desert and a decade has past... I just found this since the Hotspot was cancelled. How did I not find this sooner?

O wow I can't believe The Getaway came out of somebody's mouth!  That game was supposed to get a third installment this gen.  Kinda wish they would have made the third.  The first two games weren't perfect but the second was better and I feel the third would have been much better......Oh well.

I believe the video game industry isn't young.  The problem we are having now is that we are being recognized by the world and even ourselves and we are having a hard time trying to find a way to present ourselves.  Before we could do and say just about what ever we wanted but since we have become so large we have to play by new rules and we are still getting used to this.

I have and only played and beat No One Lives Forever 2, and while I only beat it once, it's a fantastic game aside from some moments where I couldn't find where to go (most likely due to my ignorance of being young at the time). NOLF is one of those games that I really wish I had, and I had gotten the supposedly far inferior PS2 version years back, but brought it home only to find it didn't work, and it was new. Watching some YouTube videos of it months back, it still look great. If only there were a NOLF2 sequel.

@jayd02 You yourself describe it almost exactly as though it's a teenager exiting puberty, I'd say that qualifies as "young"! :)

The salient point is, it's younger (~35 years) in comparison to most other entertainment industries, and it has coped with more change and upheaval in that short time than most others. Not just technology, but also marketing, legislation, public acceptance and stigmas, abusive work/life balance, budgets and scope... etc.

@zanelli Yeah, and he was playing with a 360 controller.
