GameSpot GamePlay Episode 34: Junk Deodorant

Matt Gilgenbach makes games. He makes good games. He made Retro/Grade, which is a cool game you should go and play.

Matt Gilgenbach is also obsessed with nude holograms with reflective skin that obscures their genitalia. Learn more about Matt's idiosyncrasies and upcoming murder simulators on this week's episode, which also features host Kevin VanOrd, who cannot un-know things without heavy drinking and head trauma; Peter Brown, who must determine which mountain is the most appropriate to smell like; and Andy Bauman, who takes a chance and turns safe search off.

Also up for discussion: God of War, Gears of War, Dawn of War, and any other type of war you can think of. Except the Boer War, since we can't remember what that was.

I wonder if Kevin VanOrd allows women into his podcast. Not in a bad way but I wonder if Kevin is good with women. Especially Asian women. Also would be cool to see Kevin make a fool of himself but in a light hearted kind of way.

I understand what you mean by watching and learning and not unlearning it Kevin.  I hate watching trailers of a game and they show you something far down the road in the game.  Then when I play the game and something potentially exciting happens but then I remember back to the trailer I saw and say to myself, "Well this can't happen because I remember that trailer and that hasn't happened yet.  This means that this event will be pointless because I haven't experienced that trailer yet."  Has anyone had one of these moments?  I try not to watch trailers now because this happens so often.

I have a Wii U and I love it but it has collected dust next to my PS3.  I feel the mistake Nintendo made was making this opening window so long.  I don't know why they would let the system get this dry.  We did just recently get Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate but we need something that isn't re-mastered.  Nintendo needed to think this through more and have at least one or two games come out a month.

The length is becoming too long like the Giantbomb Podcast, it's becoming really annoying now. An hour is perfect, however as soon as it becomes longer the content is stretched out with too much chit chat that isn't about games.

Hey Kevin, where did you find the opening music theme for the podcast? It always reminds me of something that I can't put my finger on.

It saddens me to know that you guys didn't recognize Wind Waker. Not only is it an amazing game but it was also Gamespot's GOTY at the time.

Another great episode. This has become my favourite Gamespot feature. Btw, what's the game you guys were talking about? Star something. It seems like a game I'd like.

Why  put deodorant on your junk? That's what body spray was invented for and this episode is a change of pace. I like the actually discussion of the components of games and what the Wii U needs to up it's sales in order to flourish as a new console.

Deodorant on your junk? Sounds like it would result in a lot of chaffing.

Omg lol that one guy's voice is so nasally he sounds like a cartoon character. That is awesome.

I liked the show this week. There was a lot more discussion on the designs of games and I even heard of a title or two that I hadn't before.

@johnnyauau Huh? We've had quite a number of women on the podcast.

:/

@Tixylixx When I ask folks by email and on social media, the overwhelming feedback is that people want the podcast to be long. I am sorry it isn't working for you :( The vast majority of what people send me is to make it long. I am sorry.

@Tevarius It's from a sound library we subscribe to; the music is called WindFarm.

@Okabe_Anim He's still on his honeymoon. New Zealand must be lovely to keep him away this long!

@WCK619 I'm pretty sure it's Squidward, can't wait to try out his game.
