GameSpot GamePlay Episode 33: Salmonella Commendation

Two games writers for the price of one! GamesRadar's Hollander Cooper and former GameSpotter Matt Rorie join the crew for more madness, might and magic.

GameSpot GamePlay Episode 33: Salmonella Commendation

Hollander Cooper from GamesRadar is such a stand-up guy that he lets us make fun of him for an entire podcast. In response, he finds new and interesting ways to insert the words "penis" and "poop" into this episode of GameSpot GamePlay. Not to be outdone, former GameSpot game guides editor Matt Rorie tells us how he "gets around," proving that while his body might be a temple, his writing is for sale to the highest bidder.

All the rest of us can do is hope to get in a few extraneous thoughts, such as Andy's Farmville 2 praise (yes, really; well, kinda), Kevin's SimCity woes, and Carolyn's ruminations on sexist crayons.

Dear Mr Kevin Vanord,

I am very pleased that this podcast is still going on despite you and your colleagues' workload. I have been listening to this podcast since the very first episode, and I must say that I really enjoyed most of the episodes.

Alas, I have two qualms:

First, I think the 'games' are not broad enough in terms of their relations with the various video games genres out there. Most of the time the answers are related to either RPG, FPS, or Action Games. Rarely have the answers been about RTS, or strategy games in general. For example, whenever you test the podcasters' knowledge on games music, most of the answers (the correct ones) are either from the most popular genres or your favorite video games (Kingdom Hearts, FF, though I love the latter).

Second, the largest chunk of the podcast should be dedicated to news and current issues, not some trivia- games (they are informative sometimes). And yes, I think the podcast would improve if you discuss video games in relation to the larger world out there, like how post-apocalyptic atmosphere in video games relates to non-video games works of similar setting like Nausicaa, The Road and such.

At the end though, the creative formula of the podcast needs no change: Discussions interspersed with games, but just make the discussions broader and bolder. As for the jokes, keep up the good job.

Sincerely,

Raven Chrome From Malaysia.

I'm shocked you had GamesRadar people on? Nice touch, makes the episode so epic. Anyway can't wait for more episodes and you're not the only one who misses Tom Magrino. Nice man :/

Hmm, i am starting to really dislike some of the gamespot staff. Some sound jealous of people like Richard Garriot that it clouds their judgment.

Also why dont you google things you dont know? the way you trashed Garriots house was poor and sounded like a 4th grade school yard bully.

Come on Gamespot staff your better then this

I CAN'T BELIEVE THE SEXIST PIGS ON THIS PODCAST! RABBLE! RABBLE! RABBLE!

Seriously though this was an awesome podcast. I've had Icewind Dale since I was a little kid but I've never gotten past the group creation haha.

For the past few months, I haven't been able to listen to the podcast on my iPhone 4S. I get it through the Podcast App, but the podcast randomly stops and resets itself to the beginning about 3 dozen times an hour. I can never listen to more than a few minutes before it stops, and rewinds itself to the very start, and I lose my progress. I just had to stop listening to it. I listen to 2 dozen podcasts, and no other ones do this. I've tried everything, even troubleshooted with Apple, and nothing fixed it.

I can no longer listen to one of my favorite podcasts, and I don't have enough space left open to download an app like stitcher and get it there. FML.

@Ravenshout They have done an RTS soundtrack quiz in the past. You'll notice they all have themes, and strategy was one of the first ones.

@Jacanuk It was a joke. You think that being silly and imagining that Richard Garriott lives in a castle in space was trashing him? Lighten up: a sense of humor is required for GameSpot GamePlay listening!

@EKGProd Have you tried downloading it entirely? that works for me. (even if it takes up much needed space)

@EKGProd I wish I knew how to better help. Does iTunes not work well for you?

@Kevin-V @Jacanuk Hmm, this is the problem with only hearing your voices... :D i couldn´t tell it was meant in a humerous way, so perhaps a suggesting for future podcasts, you should do them as a live stream also.
