Gamescom 2014: Microsoft Teases Halo Announcements for Gamescom -- What Are You Hoping For?

343 Industries to make "some new announcements" about Halo during Microsoft's briefing next week at the German show.

If you're a Halo fan, you'll want to pay attention to Microsoft's Gamescom briefing next week. Microsoft's Halo development team, 343 Industries, teases in a blog post that it will make "some new announcements" during the event, which kicks off at 5 AM PDT on August 12. Thankfully for fans, this year's briefing will be streamed live, unlike past years when it was a private affair.

Gamescom will also serve as the first time Halo 2: Anniversary, included with the Halo: The Master Chief Collection, will be playable to the public. If you visit the Microsoft booth (and wait in line), you'll get to play a 4v4 match on Ascension, as well as a yet-to-be-announced map. Multiple gametypes will be available.

"We're excited to watch you play and hear your thoughts on the anniversary treatment we've given to Halo 2 multiplayer," the studio said.

Microsoft's Halo plans for Gamescom don't end there, however. On August 13 at 2 AM PDT (get your coffee), 343 Industries key developers Bonnie Ross (studio head), Dan Ayoub (executive producer), and Kiki Wolfkill (executive producer) will show off some never-before-publicly-seen content through Twitch.

In addition, Microsoft has partnered with competitive gaming league ESL and Twitch for a 4v4 "showdown" Halo 2: Anniversary tournament at Gamescom. Think you're the best? You can put your skills to the test by competing in the open tournament, which includes a $10,000 prize pool. Details on how to participate in the tournament are available at the 343 Industries website.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection launches November 11 for Xbox One. In addition to the remastered version of Halo 2: Anniversary, the show-stopping bundle includes updated versions of Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 3, and Halo 4 together for $60. The collection also includes access to Ridley Scott's Halo: Nightfall and lets you get into the beta for Halo 5: Guardians.

In other Halo news, UK retailer GAME has listed a pair of Halo: The Master Chief Collection collector's editions, the first of which is a limited edition that sells for £52.99 ($89), and includes a steelbook case, physical map book, and a special "Grunt Funeral" skull. Meanwhile, the unpriced MJOLNIR edition--which is currently sold out--includes everything from the limited edition, as well as a foot-tall Master Chief statue. Both are available only through GAME. Microsoft has not said if these will be available outside of the UK.

honestly I feel sorry for xtards. I really do. This is literally all they have to look forward to, whereas I played both halo 1 an halo 2 the other week on my pc and thought "this is not as fun as I remembered, in fact it sucks...". I used to love halo, but now I don't even care about it anymore haha. destiny on the other hand, I cannot wait for it to release. just goes to show bungie got rid of halo because they wanted to do something fresh and with more evolved gameplay, while microsoft keeps halo and doesn't innovate the genre or franchise at all.

honestly xtards, you ignored us about your console purchase the damage is already done. but mark my words, don't waste your money on this crap. you will be bored within an hour just like I was the other week. halo 1, 2 and 3 will not be as good as you remember them to be trust me.

I have a question, hoping some Halo fans here can help me out? .. Im someone who has never played Halo..I know nuts, totally zero about the story.. will I then be up to date with the whole story if i get this Halo: Master chief collection? I read that its supp to be a collection of Halo 1-4? how do they squeeze 4 whole entire games into 1 disc?

or its just like a summary kinda thingy of Halo 1-4?

In addition to Halo 1-4, i know there are other "side stories" like Halo : reach? would i need to play those to know the entire story?

Thanks guys!!

I love how all the console peasants utilize this one rare opportunity to make fun of PC gamers.  MUHAHAHA YOU AIN'T GETTING HALO!!!

LOL please, we have 300 games in our Steam library, we don't need to play a FPS game using a pathetic controller LOL.

Anyone hoping for HALO MC collection to be announced for PC will be highly disappointed. The only reason why RYSE and Dead rising 3 where ported over to pc was because they where developed by third party studios. MS realises that the xbox one needs halo as its signature, and therefore it shall remain exclusive.

Would be funny if this news has nothing to with pc's at all.

Probably MS is going to announce Halo Wars 2 and if it should bomb,MS is going to announce the support for M&K for  specific X1 games

Even if i had Xbox One I'd still not get Halo just because I don't like to play FPS games with controller. If I ever play this epic game it will be on PC with Mouse/Keyboard.

Taken from microsoft job listings a week or so ago made news by pcgamer.

"51% of all time spent gaming is on PCs - more than on consoles and mobile devices combined," states the listing. "PC gaming itself is projected to make $25 Billion in 2014, growing 13% year over year. (physical copy sales) Across the Windows platform, including phones, tablets, and PCs, Microsoft is uniquely positioned to change the world of gaming."

They are gonna announce stuff for the pc sooner or later no matter how Xbox people might feel about it. Its just them being protective over their OS. Windows based gaming make them a lot of money Xbox doesnt. Over 250 million high end pc gamers estimated that have the use of an OS and they dont want them to go to steam OS. It is what it is.

Hope it's real games and not just mouse with sticker.

For the love of all things Halo, throw in ColdSnap from Halo: Custom Edition! It might have been fan-made but it was hands down the best Halo map for CTF-- 6 km map with snow cover, mountains and overpowered snipers. Not to mention pilotable pelicans, longswords, mechs and jets.

Vodoo
Vodoo

They should throw in Halo Wars. I recently had to hunt down a copy on eBay. That's an awesome game and always gets overlooked by Microsoft just because it wasn't made by Bungie/343.

PC release, but I don't see that happening, they need it to sell their potato.

I'm hoping. Final Fantasy XIV comes to Xbox One! since Square-Enix is in talks with Microsoft for it!

nitro73

I am hoping a PC launch as well. I have a random itch to play Halo 2 and 3 again, but don't want to purchase a 360 or a One to do so.

Maybe a remaster package of ODST, Reach, and Halo Wars? Probably won't do that until next year, though, if at all.

Why is Master Chief wearing a motorcycle helmet?

Well it's either they bring it to PC and i buy it, or they don't bring it to PC and i don't buy it.

Your move Microsoft

xneonic

@CallousIW You get the complete games like kenbop2 said. You will in fact miss out on Halo 3: ODST and, in my opinion the best halo game of all, Halo: Reach. But if you NEED to know what you missed in plot you can just read the wikipedia summary

kenbop2
kenbop2

@CallousIW  It's a complete collection. All are full re-mastered editions of the originals. Reach and ODST are not included but available cheaply in stores and such. This is the complete Original package all inclusive. I believe they're on 2 discs with bonus content on the third.

@mesomorphin Halo 1 and 2 were both on PC... To add to that this was back when Microsoft was actually trying to get PC gamers to switch to Xbox. Now pretty much every PC gamer only owns 1 or two consoles at most and likely only really plays on their PC. Everyone I know is not going to buy an Xbox One to just play Halo. I mean most of the people who own Xbones have already beat the past Halo games anyway. Really this lines up with Microsoft making this for PC way too well.

sladakrobot

@Fabian85 That cannot be true...

My playing time is like: 98% console,2% on pc...i represent all console players :-)

@coolmastaj They said it's a surprise. Remastered versions of maps from games that are IN the collection are a given. Obviously Coagulation will be in the game, because Halo 2 is in the game.

Square Enix just brought an update for FF XI on X360...after so many years they still support this game!

You mean the playtime? Those are microsoft words. Never heard about it before that. Google microsoft job listings pcgamer and i think you find the article and a link in it.

Fabian85
Fabian85

No its not its about an upcoming Microsoft announcement. What I wrote was relevant and about recent ms job listings. Just like you know ms said they were making announcements for pc but after e3 prior to e3 and their view on the strategy genre lately. Also relevant. Youre opinion would be the not so interesting thing.

shaban95
shaban95

Yea but if the game came to PC,it wouldn't effect you,let PC gamers enjoy halo aswell.

xXxIRyanxXx
xXxIRyanxXx

@grenadehh @coolmastaj They are updating six Halo 2 maps and they have only announced three of them. I really hope that isn't the big reveal because that would be boring, I'm hoping Halo Wars 2.

dominoodle
dominoodle

Pretty sure microsoft cares whether or not people buy their console.

Sl4cka
Sl4cka

@xXxIRyanxXx Yes, but if it comes to PC, then that's pretty much it for X.bone - no exclusives, only use for it would be as a luxurious door stop.

iammcgruber
iammcgruber

@Fabian85 Only a couple halo games have made it to PC, I don't know why you feel that there announcement would be that. If they were going to announce it, Gamescom would not be the time to do so because that would mean even more people who were on the fence about getting an Xbox One for this game might not now.

Monsterkillah
Monsterkillah

What the hell man all my xbox games are on pc why should i keep my xbox for that reason

Yo thats stupid bro

xXxIRyanxXx
xXxIRyanxXx

@dominoodle They would care if it was one of the only divisions of Microsoft that was making money, but its not, most of their money comes from selling Office and Windows.

xXxIRyanxXx
xXxIRyanxXx

@Sl4cka @xXxIRyanxXx Exactly that's why its never gonna happen, what was the last Halo game ported to PC, I think it was Halo 2. PC will be lucky to get Halo 3 because there is no way Microsoft is gonna port the MCC any time soon.
