Game noir announced for Revolution

Obscure Polish developer Nibris announces Sin City-esque title set in the 1930s--and presented entirely in black and white.

When the Revolution was announced, Nintendo naysayers preemptively dismissed it as yet another platform oriented toward younger gamers. In the span of two weeks, however, that assumption has been proven wrong twofold. First came Ubisoft's announcement that it is working on Red Steel, an adult-oriented action game set in the modern Japanese underworld.

Today came news of a second Revolution game that is definitely not for kids. Polish developer Nibris has announced that it is developing Sadness, a film noir-inspired game for the next-generation platform.

The studio, who is so obscure it has the words "Yes, we do exist" on its Web site, was stingy with details. It didn't name a publisher, fix a release date, or identify a specific genre. It did, however, crow about how Sadness will be the first game with all black-and-white graphics, citing the recent crime thriller Sin City as an inspiration. It also said the game would be set "pre-World War," giving it the same 1930s setting as many classic crime films.

In a somewhat garbled statement, "Nibris employee" Lukasz "CassSept" Oskard praised the vision of Nintendo, which his company will develop for exclusively. "Nibris decided to follow Nintendo's path, which definately (sic) fights the stagnation which has occurred in video games and creates new trends," he said. "With thise (sic) move, we want to create a unique environment, which is only available in Sadness."

Um, pre WWI would make it the 1900-10s, not '30s. Look at the lady in the banner--Edwardian clothing, not Deco. This article's 3d paragraph is off by at least 2 decades. The game looks far more interesting, too, because the turn of the century isn't common for games, so different is definitely good.

I just hope the developers manage to put better spelling in the game than they managed in their statement. Good sentiment, but say hello to the spell checker next time...

This game, I can't say anything really right now, but I saw a user video for the trialer for it. The game reminds me of Eternal Darkness. Also reading the article above, hearing that its for like the adult scene. I will give this game a try. (I'm only 15 years old) I will look forward to this game. It looks sacry as of now. Mybe we can see more of the game when more screenshots and gameplay videos along with interviews start coming in. Until then, I will start tracking this game.

Argh, I need to see more on this. I stumbled across this in the "Similar Games" section and read "black and white" and was like "eh?" C'mon, this sounds interesting! We need interesting! I wanna hands-on or a demo or something to remind us that "Yes, we do exist", lol

This game is not about rapid gun fire or blowing zombies and monsters to bits. Infact, there isn't even any eveidence of a gun being available. This game is about freaking you out and totally ingrossing you in the game so that you sh!t yourself everytime a rat jumps out.

check out the website link - it's a horror game with no guns, still sounds pretty cool to me but for those of you expecting to play sin city the inspiration will all be on an artistic level. Dang I'd almost forgotten how much that movie rocked!

I dunno. Looks interesting, but I don't trust a company that can't spell words right in their press releases. "Definately "and "thise" indeed.

Revolutionary consoles need revolutionary games. You can't start a war without an army.

"I said it in the Red Steel article and I'll say it here: what is wrong with you ppl? Again, you know ABSOLUTELY nothing about this game at all and yet you're already jumping up and down proclaiming it's brilliance. Hell, this game doesn't even talk about the controller and yet you still think it's amazing bc it's on Rev. And please STOP saying this is Sin City on Rev because it's not. The game's black & white coloring was the only thing inspired from Sin City. Once again, all I'm seeing is posts from rabid fanboys. One... Thanks for calling it "obscure" (irony), Two... It's nice that not only japs, americans, chinesse and koreans are starting to make games, Three... Pre-World War in a polish mind probably meens the "Pre-Second World War" but seeing a game in times before the First World War Four... With all respect, I'm hopeing for this game to be good but You can't expect it to be a Konami-like production, I meen I'm polish and I'm hopeing for another great polish game but I'm also realistic and I know how felow poles can mess things up^^" Five... The Revolution is not out yet, I'll say anything about it when it's out and I'll get a hands-on experience... The only thing is... How the hell can I use the Revolutionary controller on a 14" TV ?_? Six... I hope that action in the game will be situated in Eastern Europe (I know that for the most of You it's like the "End of the World") becouse I'm sick of japaneese "weird" world and the american "hood". Most of games situated in EE are IIWW games... Seven... Hopeing for the best and waiting for E3

Al_zindo "Good. However the 1930s setting doesn't sound too exiting. Most games based on that period of time kinda suck... except maybe for the Godfather... Still. it's good to see Nintendo with some fresh ideas." I wouldn't think a Polish AND obscure 3RD party developer would be really calaborating with nintendo on a game.... They are just publishing it on that system.... Nintendo has nothing to do with it. Like sony has nothing to do with Black.... or Metal Gear Solid.

Notice how the games that are being announced for Revolution are completely new and NOT, I repeat NOT ports from past systems. Hurray for Nintendo. Lets just hope they are good.

Wow this plus Red Steel. Revolutions getting some nice mature 3rd party exclusives and its not even E3 time yet. Let's all hope that they don't suck.

I've always had a nintendo system in my house for as long as I can remember along with a playstation2 and an xbox. I must admit when I first heard about the concept for the controller, I was very skeptical. But I now find myself getting pretty interested in the Revolution. Some games announced, it's predicted low price, massive online library, free wi-fi. Sounds good to me.

Dean-a

Sadness is a horror game, not a gta gansta game, you will have to use your surroundings to survive, so survival horror it is, unlike RE with rocket launchers and stuff, you will have to use broken glass and other things you can find!

ocarina_jedi

With every passing day, the Rev sounds more and more amazing. If games like this and Red Steel keep getting announced (and eventually deliver when they come out), then Nintendo will own all this time around!

Yeah looks kool looking forward to the Revolution already got 400$ saved up for it....125-225$ for the console(I'm in Canada so it's gonna be alittle higher over here then U.S I suppose.) and all the rest is going into controlers and games. Also RedSteel looks like a keeper.

You have to admit, Nintendo's really going all out for original IP's. Some may not agree, but I think it's better than waiting in line to buy your next gen system just to play slightly upgraded versions of games already out. And before the fanboys start saying I hate the 360/PS3, I'm talking about SSBM as well.

Nice, lets hope they get the decent support they deserve. If they had half as much support as the playstation they would have sold twice as many gamecubes.

"noir means night in french" No, noir means BLACK. Anyways, some of the stuff I've read about the game seems to indicate a survival horror game in first-person, centered around ideas of mental illness. I'm excited to learn more, and I hope NIBRIS finds a publisher. They're supposedly in talks with a few big names, but we'll see how it all pans out.
