First expansion to turn-based strategy game completes development, in stores February 14.

Note: not actual size.

For fans of the Galactic Civilizations games, the vast depths of space just got one step closer to being vaster and deeper. Stardock Entertainment today announced that the first expansion to Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords has completed development. Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar is scheduled for release on February 14 on the PC.

The game adds several new features to the turn-based strategy game, including the ability to create opponents' looks and style of play, spies, asteroid fields, two new races, a new minicampaign, and more.

Dark Avatar will be sold via digital distribution for $29.95 on Stardock's TotalGaming.net Web site, or as part of the Galactic Civilizations II: Gold Edition bundle, which includes Dread Lords, for $39.95. For more information on the game, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

I've already been playing the beta. Fun stuff, although I never have enough time to really get into it...

I didn't think this game was any good, i'm sure any more expansion packs won't be able to convince me.

Episodic retail at its best. Although this game isn't all that its made out to be its still nice and the developers really do make some good stuff. This game's alil more technical then the traditional C&C game but has alot more depth. Maybe a final fantasy of the RTS universe you could say.

Brilliant game, and the expansion pack sounds like its going to completely revamp it to make it even better than before. Thanks to Stardock for making a expansion pack that actually has substance, and of course a game that is absolutely spot on, love it.

Guess I will have to buy the Gold Edition. Oh well for Gal Civ 2 I consider it worth it.

I agree, I kept giving the squirrel guys planets to help out. I need to upgrade my computer though, i always hated when it locked up/stuttered when i ran low on RAM.

$40 for a goldpack is an excellent price if everything fits on 1 or 2 DVDS

Mmmm, I hope tactical fighting and sound effects get a lot of love. I wish the price was: $19.99 for expansion packs, in general.

I look foward to making a more robust evil empire out of the snathi template. They're soooo cute. An army off dark bear\squirrel things. Like the sea otters on south park.

I agree with HyperMetaDragon. 7 comments in this amount of time is a crime for a game this good.
