Fuudo and Box Viscant winners of Evolution 2011

Renowned Virtua Fighter 5 player wins Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition tournament, Jay Snyder wins Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

by

Update: We corrected the headline. PR Rog came in second; Jay "Box Viscant" Snyder came in first place in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. We apologize for the mix-up.

The biggest fighting game event in the USA, Evolution 2011, recently took place from July 29 to July 31. The tournament reached its crescendo overnight, and there were some surprises on the podium of winners.

Strangely, there were no Yang players in the top eight for SSFIV: AE.

Japanese player Fuudo won the Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition grand finals using Fei Long. The tournament player is renowned for being a prominent player in the Virtua Fighter 5 scene. Brokentier Latif came in second place using C. Viper, while Korean player Poongko came in third place using Seth. Daigo Umehara, previous winner of last year's Evolution Super Street Fighter IV tournament, came in fourth place using Yun.

On the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 grand finals side, Jay "Box Viscant" Snyder won using Wesker, Haggar, and Phoenix. Eduardo "PR Balrog" Perez came in second place using Dante, Wolverine, and Tron. Justin Wong came in third place using Wolverine, She-Hulk, and Akuma. This is the first time the 2D fighting game featuring characters from the Marvel Comics and Capcom brand has been represented in an Evolution tournament, next to Mortal Kombat.

Other notable first place winners include DMG Perfect Legend for Mortal Kombat's grand finals, DMG Kor for Tekken 6's grand finals, and Spark for BlazBlue: Continuum Shift's grand finals. Check out the videos section of GameSpot soon for replays of the grand finals.

@zaiwen If you're going to say 'Easterners' are technically sound then you might want to properly spell out each word you use, rather then saying U instead of the always tedious You, so as to not contradict your own statement.

Sorry buddy easterners only won at SSF 4 A.E. not the other games (not counting Mortal Kombat made in the USA) that Japan makes. Besides does it matter because the win is for one person only in the end. Mr Zaiwen goto EVO next year win for yourself then you will have the right to utter nonsense about East vs West. Side note I care more that Daigo and Jwong didn't win because I like that it show that there is a chance for everyone at EVO that is the point not country vs country...but to see who the champion will be!

@ Mad Gamer132 if your Master of Virtua Fighter 5 yov've pretty much mastered every fighting style or lesser game for that matter..... its just that deep, people always fail to realize how great virtua fighter series is when comes to preparing you for high level play if you can find competent players once you really start to master the game you are set it takes alot time to achieve that kinda prowess at Virtua Fighter tho....

I can't believe someone used Phoenix to win in MVC3!!! I'm surprised that there are barely any posts here, its just less active here than I thought it would be.
