Fuse demo launching next week

Pre-release trial coming to Xbox 360 and PS3 May 7 with four-player online co-op or two-player split-screen.

The previously revealed Fuse demo will launch May 7 on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, publisher Electronic Arts announced today.

The demo supports up to four player co-op online or two-player local split-screen. In the demo, players take on the role of four operatives and must protect mankind from Fuse, the nefarious alien energy source stolen by a paramilitary organization called Raven.

Fuse is the first multiplatform title from Insomniac Games, the studio most famous for its work on the Resistance franchise. It launches May 28 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and will not have an online pass or microtransactions.

The game was announced during the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo, when it was known as OverStrike.

I downloaded and played the demo last night.  It feels like an old Tomb Raider style game - what with climbing up and down pipes and cliffs etc.  I really hadn't expected this style of game. However, what was worst was that the rest of it seems like a VERY old-school shooter.  Pretty uninspired, personality-less characters, the AI in SP is HORRIBLE ("Yeah guys - no probs, y'all just hang out back there, I'll go up ahead and kill everything)......all in all, not impressed.  Won't be buying.  Nothing revolutionary.

I tested the demo and, aside from a little strange movement it felt fine. Props for Insomniac for putting the cover- and the sprint buttons as seperate buttons.

I'd say "Go for it."

And one last thing: The IP is owned by Insomniac. It says so on the title screen. That means EA had no involment in the development.

Giant lazer man in the trailer gives me hope that this won't be another bland, homogenised shooter. It's a pity how far this game has fallen in my perception since they stopped calling it "Overstrike."

is Insomniac Games a good studio ?

Probably releasing a new demo so that they don't get sued later on for making wholesale changes to the game since E3 :P

New demo? good good, something to look forward to. I wont be expecting much though.

I don't even find myself wanting to download the demo. Insomniac really went the wrong direction turning this into a generic shooter. :(

I liked it better when it was called Overstrike and had the fun-looking E3 trailer.

I don't plan on buying i. Its not that i don't want to but with The Last of Us, Killer is Dead, the PS4, Next Xbox, and all the games for from late August and on, im already spending a lot on gaming and pre-ordering and paying all I can now.

A bit dissapointed with Insomniac.. They always make the games that are unique from the industry... But, this may be different. I think they need better marketing too, never heard about this game until GameSpot did some articles on it.

EDIT: Watched the trailer. A little bit more hyped ;)

Insomniac makes some of my favorite games. Though this doesn't seem initially spectacular I will give it my complete benefit of doubt. Playing through Resistance 3 right now and I must say it is one of the finest examples of a FPS i've ever played. Who am I kidding I am looking forward to this one. AAAHHHh

I kind of liked the original OverStrike art style and trailer, but if "Fuse" retains the atmosphere and play style of the original concept, I may give it a look.

Looking forward to the demo. Co-op shooters are always a favorite of mine.

This game just looks generic and boring. They should have just went with the original art style, it made it stand out, look interesting, and gave it character. Now it's just another generic shooter.

Pity it's not 4 player splitscreen, but then so little is nowadays :(

Still worth trying the demo anyway.

This looks interesting, I hope it really capitalizes on team play and not say team play and you can still Rambo your way through every stage. I would love to play this with my mates, been looking for a game in the Conflict series vein of gaming. It looks a bit underwhelming in terms of visuals but I am guessing it's a 3rd person game which to me is great as I don't want to play 1st person anymore it's boring and a bit vertigo inducing when the gameplay becomes to quick and repetitive.  Will definitely try this Demo out, been a while since I played a demo of anything. Hope Insomniac can deliver on this game. Played GoW but was burnt out on the series after the first game as the second didn't do much different, but I loved the reward for reloading your weapons correctly, always a good thing in a fire fight.

This game looks really "meh".  The graphics aren't even as good as Resistance 1.

Also, it looks team based, and I hate team based games.  Gears was nearly unplayable due to the bad AI.

That trailer was loaded with stupidity. Why would there be a satellite with 3 rockets inside, are you mental? I can disbelief anything but, don't make me feel stupid, we already have call of duty for that.

"...the studio most famous for its work on the Resistance franchise."

I always think of Ratchet and Clank when I hear Insomniac. Either way I should really give Resistance a go.

No microtransactions and no online pass means I will probably buy this game... If it is good of course haha.

Fuse is a game now?  It barely works with Gamespot.

@6826236 Very, although their work this generation doesn't match up to their best on the PS2.

"The demo supports up to four player co-op online or two-player local split-screen."

I think the words "up to" implies that there will be support for 1-4 players.

@Mkeegs79 That's when you rent games first, or go the used route and buy the DLC to support the developer. I also never trade games in (well, not after the 8th grade when I got rid of Little Nemo and a few others for Hard Drivin'), but now I only preorder games that I know I would buy if they never reduced the price. Other than that, they have to pass the Redbox test.

@Mkeegs79 trade in ..

thats what i do . play it finish it , trade it . next one .

unless its something so epic , that i must keep it for nostalgia or just an awesome experience .. or its very playable.

so BF3, FIFA 13, mass effect trilogy, and dark arisen , is all i have atm. until metro

@JayQproductions lets see over the top weapons that can create giant shields that shoot out kinetic energy gathered from the projectiles it blocks, a gun that can cause people to burst into a singularity when they die chaining between enemies across the battlefield, a gun that can be used to pin people to walls create long distance explosive traps and melt enemies, a gun that can crystalize enemies and heal at a distance.

Not to mention gameplay built around all these guns working together in a team setting in a wide variety of tag team methods beyond just lets all shoot this guy.

Yes so generic. *sarcasm*

On top of this the game still has humor as has been clarified by the devs numerous times. The gameplay itself is exactly the same as it was as overstrike. They just changed the art style and toned down the humor from slapstick to a balance of serious and humor.

phoenix1289
phoenix1289

@DrKill09 the game is both team based and not team based. If you want you can work as a team, if you want though you can switch between any of your squad members on the fly and control them if you desire. So if say one of your characters goes down and you want to revive them rather than relying on the AI you can take control of the nearest team member and make them go over and revive. Or you could allow the AI to do it which from what Insomniac has said they have spent a lot of time fine tuning the AI.

@Vagnar Resistance is one of my favorite FPS franchise.

1 > 2 > 3 btw.  Insomniac is going nowhere fast.

FallenOneX

@gamerboy100 I also think that the term "co-op" means at least two players. I've played at least one demo in the past 6 years that actually needed two players to enjoy. Not sure if Fuse is another, but that's probably why people are so caught up in the wording of the demo's description.

I can't remember the demo it was, but I think it was a fighting game that the SP portion was just a crappy tutorial, and you could only fight a human opponent.

Mkeegs79
Mkeegs79

@FallenOneX @Mkeegs79 I haven't rented a game in many many years. I straight up buy. I have been good with my choices and consider myself knowledgeable to know what will end up being good. I also rarely play demos as well. I only played a few this generation.

Mkeegs79

@DARKKNIGHTPRABZ @Mkeegs79 I keep every single game I buy no matter the quality but this generation out of over 200 games, I have only bought two that I really regretted.

@VagnarI'm talking Single Player.  I don't play competitive online multiplayer.  Last competitive game I played online was Unreal Tournament 1.  Now THAT was entertaining.  Sped up Insta-Frag was brutal as hell.  If you want something fun to do, try Fractal level 1-on-1 against CPU on God Mode rocket launchers only.

Vagnar

@megadeth1117 @Vagnar I've been reluctant, but the price is real low now, and since these guys made Ratchet Deadlocked I figured me and my Bro would enjoy it. Do you know if the co-op is any good?

gamerboy100
gamerboy100

@FallenOneX

I looked into it, and from what I read, the full version of the game will have single-player. Therefore, it would make sense for the demo to have single-player, as well.

Total_mischief

@Ryuuken27 @Goemons I think you meant "I can disbelieve", "Call of Duty" and "McDonald's". See how annoying your little asinine comments are ? Not to mention Goemons answered your question properly. This is a science-fiction, over the top video game with a touch of humour and nonsense. You're the one with a mental problem if you feel the need to critique the logic of the technology in that type of game.

Vagnar
Vagnar

@Keaze_ @Vagnar I haven't really enjoyed competitive Multiplayer in a long while (and UT 1 was definitely one of my favs). These days I'm more co-op oriented, which is why I loved Deadlocked so much. Hoping to get the same/similar experience from Resistance co-op.

Vagnar

@megadeth1117 Thanks for the heads up. Since it's dirt cheap now I'll try the first one and see if I should bother with the rest.

megadeth1117
megadeth1117

@Vagnar The co-op portion of Resistance 2 is supposedly decent, though I can't say myself since the campaign nearly bored me into a coma. I returned it the day after I got it. Resistance 3 is just as bad. Resistance 2 currently $7 at Gamestop, which isn't too bad a price if you'd like to experience it yourself.

I'm a fan of the Ratchet series as well, I'm not sure what happened to Insomniac between the two franchises.
