Further Guitar Hero III tracks announced

Activision adds another 17 to the setlist, including originals from Slipknot, Aerosmith, and the Killers.

The battle of the band games is shaping up--after Rock Band's announcement of tracks from the Grateful Dead last month, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock publisher Activision has also released a statement adding some new tunes to its game.

These include seven original recordings and 10 rerecorded versions, and will feature songs from Aerosmith, Cream, Santana, and the Killers. The latest additions to the tracklist are as follows:

Original songs

"Same Old Song and Dance" by Aerosmith
"Helicopter" by Bloc Party
"Stricken" by Disturbed
"Monsters" by Matchbook Romance
"Before I Forget" by Slipknot
"Kool Thing" by Sonic Youth
"When You Were Young" by the Killers

Rerecorded songs

"Devil Went Down to Georgia" as made famous by Charlie Daniels Band
"Sunshine of Your Love" as made famous by Cream
"Holiday in Cambodia" as made famous by Dead Kennedys
"Cliffs of Dover" as made famous by Eric Johnson
"Hit Me with Your Best Shot" as made famous by Pat Benatar
"Black Magic Woman" as made famous by Santana
"Story of My Life" as made famous by Social Distortion
"Pride and Joy" as made famous by Stevie Ray Vaughn
"The Seeker" as made famous by The Who
"Black Sunshine" as made famous by White Zombie

The new tracks bring the total number now announced for the game to 66 so far. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, published by RedOctane (which was bought by Activision in 2006) and developed by Neversoft, is rated T for Teen by the ESRB and will be released in North America on October 28.

Slipknot and Disturbed are nice. I also agree that more death metal should have been put in. "Take this Life" by In Flames is a horrible choice of a Melodeath song imho. Although they were one of the pioneer bands of Melodeath, Activision could have picked better. Some of In Flames older stuff is tons better than the new. And why not some At the Gates as well. I would've been fine with Opeth too maybe, although I havent really taken to them. Arsis shoulda been in there too, hurray for Tech Death. But I also agree that some SOAD or Linkin Park shoulda been put in. Overall it still looks pretty promising, this game is gonna rock.

I do like how Guitar Hero broadens people's musical taste. I still wish they had "Don't Fear the Reaper" because I've tried listening to "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll" and I think it is not a good song. Maybe I'll learn to like it. Oh, I listened to Lacuna Coil "Closer" and I love the song, I probably would never have even heard of the band if not for Guitar Hero.

bobbetybob
bobbetybob

Agreed danny, I like not having all the songs I like on there, it gives me a chance to spread my musical taste, I mean both GH games have done that, I've played them and liked some songs I'd have never looked twice at before.

Every time this game **** comes out, people complain that their favorite songs aren't in it. Well everyone has different taste, and playing the same type of songs over and over again would suck, which is good their is variety. Anyway, we all know GH3 is going to sell amazingly, and **** and moan all u want, ur going to buy it regardless.

diorj

4 versions of the game and they couldn't slap down a Grateful Dead song. Thats pretty lame, and so are most of the songs on the game so far.

why cant activision acually listen to the preferred music choice of the people? i love guitar hero but due to the fact that about 10-15 of these songs suck on this game, guitar hero is starting to turn into the next mtv...only giving you songs they want you to hear, not what you want. i say that the fourth game if they have one should have a forum where you put your favorite 5 songs forth to place on the game, and thye pick the songs that were named the most

americahellyeah

dang, i still need my System of a Down, Billy Talent, My Chemical Romance, and Marianas Trench in this game. Thank god for DL content, hopefully they keep a steady stream of new tracks.

@Moppy43-There are far worse bands than Papa Roach. Im not saying their Legends or anything but just to play songs on a game I know of a couple tracks. Plus in terms of the expansion put them on XBL and let whoever wants em to buy em not make a totally new game over. I almost forgot System Of A Down. I know at least 5 tracks Id love to play on this game!

I'm somewhat disappointed that Cliffs of Dover will be a cover, but I'm not complaining. That song is one of the best instrumentals I've ever heard and should be a blast to play. Could of picked a better tune by The Who though, Pinball Wizard would kill anyones strum bar. :D

WOW. Cliffs off Dover. to anyone who knows anything about guitar even Clapton praises Eric Johnson. This song is easily one of the most technially sound pieces ever written.

Since a lot of us are clamoring for metal...I am going to say one word that utterly destroys most other metal bands OPETH Lets see some sweet epic Swedish death metal magic in this game!

Russty... AC/DC does suck... All they do is scream and have the easiest guitar riffs. And a trained monkey could play their drums.

for the guy who says ac/dc sucks, you obviously know nothing about rock.

moppy43

Meh, hit and miss. I'm still waiting for the Van Halen, though... @DemonKaiba: That's one expansion that I won't buy... that's a concept that they'll most likely screw up easier than they did with Rocks the 80's. Besides, Papa Roach? Yikes.

DemonKaiba
DemonKaiba

Slipknot and Disturbed NICE!!!!!!! Throw in some Korn, a little Papa Roach or some Staind, Killswitch Engage and we got a rockin kick azz game! Better yet make an expansion of just Death and Heavy Metal songs and I'm totally sold. Id love to play Machine Head's "Halo."

Gamingod2272
Gamingod2272

And whoever thinks Ac/Dc belongs in this game is pretty stupid, not because Ac/Dc sucks, but because they're just kings of the power chords and simple solos.

Gamingod2272
Gamingod2272

And I was looking forward to this game too, wow what a bunch of filth. I like the Cream, Aerosmith, The Who (finally), Santana, Pat Benatar (on of the few women on earth who can rock), and Stevie Ray Vaughn, but pretty much everything else can go to hell

@Caem: Are you serious? Rock Band is being developed by the people who made the original two Guitar Hero games, Harmonix. Also, everyone that works at Harmonix is either in a band or has been in a band.. I think they know more about music than Neversoft.

Slipknot... thats it, I'm no longer buying this. And hieverybody123, Cradle of Filth aren't Black Metal.

@crimsonfish: I am so totally in agreement with you. A little bit of Cradle of Filth or the like would go great with the tracks already there.
