Wargaming.net is letting PC gamers test-drive its improved sci-fi strategy game.

Just under a month after it started recruiting beta testers for Massive Assault Network, Wargaming.net is letting the public get in on the action. The New Orleans-based developer is now offering a fully functional trial demo of its sci-fi strategy game for free. "We decided to get more people involved into the game, while some minor features are being polished," said Victor Kislyi, the president of Wargaming.net.

Besides adding a few single-player scenarios and a single-player world war mode, the successor to last year's Massive Assault also adds an extensive online component. While the original only had hot-seat and Internet skirmish games, players who pay the monthly $6.95 access fee will have access to unlimited interplanetary deathmatches, clan wars and championships, Web-based statistics, unlimited naval warfare, and rank progression from lieutenant to marshal.

From today until April 13, Massive Assault Network's ship date, PC gamers can download a fully functional version of Massive Assault Network from GameSpot DLX. After April 13, gamers will still be able to download a limited trial version of the game for no charge.
