Free legendary Pokemon Celebi in Pokemon X and Y with Bank download

Nintendo giving away one of its rarest Pokemon with Pokemon Bank.

As part of today's Nintendo Direct, the publisher announced that it would be allowing Pokemon X and Y players to obtain legendary Pokemon Celebi by downloading the Pokemon Bank application from the Nintendo eShop.

Celebi has always been a event-only Pokemon, and was last distributed in the US at GameStop stores in early 2011. Those who use Pokemon Bank before September 30, 2014 will be able to obtain Celebi for free.

In the past, Celebi has been a psychic/grass type Pokemon--but could Nintendo rework this new Pokemon into its new Fairy type introduced in Pokemon X and Y?

Pokemon Bank will be released on December 27, and anyone who downloads the title before January 31, 2014 will receive a 30-day trial of the service for free. After that, the Pokemon Bank will cost $4.99/£4.49/€4.99 a year.

Pokemon Bank will let users store up to 3000 Pokemon in their own private cloud space, which does mean the application will require an Internet connection to use. The app also comes with Poke Transporter, which will allow users to bring their old Pokemon from Pokemon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2 into Pokemon X and Y.

The Celebi is Level 10 when downloaded and has the moves Recover, Heal Bell, a new move called Hold Back, which acts like False Swipe, and Safeguard. it is downloaded by accessing the Pokémon Link option that will appear on the main menu of Pokémon Bank

Good to see pokemon joining the long list of lazy gimmicks designed to get more money out of you. Thought they were above this crap especially since every pokemon game before this had 30 or more boxes in game for storage. Now you get 7 so they can force this useless service.

Atm this is my only incentive for downloading the Bank, seeing as I don't actually have any of the Black/White games

That's a good bonus for downloading the Pokemon Bank.

I'm sure they didn't need to give away a Legendary Pokemon to get people to download Pokemon Bank but thanks for the Celebi Nintendo!

Cant wait to transfer over all my Pokemon!

@sakaixx

Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Shaymin and Meloetta are very elusive for me to obtain.

@BeNOwNz Ah yes, Team Rare Candy Bug. The same team that allowed people to find Snorlaxes and other such rare pokemon by surfing along the side of Cinnabar Island.

@huehefner89actually, if its like the gamecube title, pokemon box, each Bank "box" will be double sized. and so be the equivalent of two normal boxes.

@huehefner89 You do realize Pokémon has always been a money-sink, right?

1 game is turned into 2-3 almost identical games every generation.

Back in the day, I had 2 GBC's, a link cable, RBY, G&S, and Pokémon stadium.

Then there's the Pokémon cards...

@huehefner89 No, you get 31 boxes and the battle box, which is enough to catch them all.

You get more boxes as you catch pokemon. That's enough for 936 pokemon + 6 in your party. Hardly regular players will need more.

This gimmick is only for more "hardcore" players who transfer a lot of pokemon and are really serious and competitive about it, who actually want it and need it, most people don't. The number of boxes is good enough for most.

@Iranaziits a god send to me as i'm currently working on an ongoing feature/blog where I catch them all... starting at the earliest games (gen 3 = Gba titles sapphire and ruby) and move the pokemon caught through the games all the way to x&y... Also I play to write a large guide about it as there appears theres no real guide to doing this...
