Foxtel for Xbox 360 detailed

Earlier this year, Microsoft Australia announced a partnership with local pay-TV provider Foxtel that would let users stream subscription TV direct to their consoles. At the time, details were fairly scarce as to how the service would actually run, but at today's Microsoft open-house event in Sydney, the software publishing giant went into a little bit more detail about how the service would work.

The Foxtel option will appear under the Video Market Place tile in the Xbox Dashboard. From there, users will have access to more than 30 channels at launch, as well as Movies on Demand. Like every video streaming service introduced in Australia, the issues of file size and download caps reared their ugly heads, and Foxtel executive director Patrick Delany acknowledged the challenges during his presentation. Previously, Microsoft has said that it is in talks with Australian ISPs to offer Foxtel on Xbox 360 unmetered, but no new information on potential ISP partnerships was given at today's event.

Like the current video streaming experience through the Xbox 360, users will be able to enter into Party mode, allowing them to watch content with friends over Xbox Live.

GameSpot AU sought further details from Foxtel and Microsoft, but representatives were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
