Earlier this week, film site Twitch passed along some scuttlebutt it had picked up about Fox's upcoming film based on the Hitman games. According to Twitch, director Xavier Gens had turned in "an explicitly violent, very bloody cut of the film that apparently included a number of head shots and extreme gore moments."

Sources had told the site that Fox balked at the cut, booted Gens from the film, and brought in editor Nicolas De Toth to cut together a toned-down, bloodless version of the film. According to Twitch, De Toth was responsible for the sanitized PG-13 cut of Live Free or Die Hard.

Twitch has since reported on another development in the story. Fox contacted the site to shoot down the earlier report, saying that De Toth had been brought on as a consultant--not an editor--and that Gens is still on board the project. They also said the film will be released with the previously expected R rating.

Hitman is scheduled for a November 21 US theatrical release, and stars Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood; Live Free or Die Hard) as the titular assassin, also known as Agent 47.

HITMAN = R-rated; non of this PG-13 crap. soon enough there even gonna want to make a damn PG version of the movie so 7 yr. old kids can watch 47 use a plastic knife as a stabbing device thus ruining HITMAN forever.

I'm only 14 so I can't even see the uncut version until it's out on DVD! Still, as I said about Manhunt 2, all the people who want to "protect kids" will die one day and so will all the christians. Western culture will be in our hands and our generation hate to see our movies and games ruined by these censoring lunatics! If being part of the ESRB was the only way to keep me off the streets when i grow up, I'd rather become a tramp an starve to death. It's better than becoming part of these shameful acts. Whoever runs the ESRB, I want to see a video of them and there family being skinned and bolied alive!! MUWAHAHA!!! JOKE JOKE! DONT BAN ME!

A toned-down R-rated film - wtf is that supposed to be? Disappointing...but it's not like it's going to be another Alien vs Predator movie.

The game itself is Rated "M" for mature, which means children under 17 have to have their parents permission to play it. Why should Fox expect anything different from the movie. This is the reason why movies based on video games usually fail.

SaKHeD
SaKHeD

i think the movie should also have an M rating as opposed to an what they say is an R-rated movie, aka that's more than likely there way of telling us it will be a pg-13 movie slapped with an R-rating, just for the rating sake. ...sucks i know

SaKHeD

yeah it's hitman it doesn't need to be toned down, now the move is partially going to be obsecure. oh well leave it to hollywood to F*%& up a fantastic movie, let alone the story...(chuckles in there faces)

I just really hope they do the game justice this time and the don't *&^% it up like they usually do with other game-adapted-movies! So keep it at the R rating as that is what the game was about... And I rate if they don't keep it true to the game we should all stay away and not even watch it! I know (for now) it is still R rated but how many times before did they say that just to have it released as PG13 or PG16. Well if they do that I sure just hope there will be an UNRATED DIRECTOR"S CUT version on Blue Ray or HD-DVD.

I was excited about this... but now it's bloodless and PG13. Weak. But I'll still probably see it.

Ahhh here is a question, I wonder how much input IO interactive and Eidos actually have in the making of the film. Becuase if they get final word on the finshed product (which i doubt they will) then the movie should be amazing.

Looks like I'm going to be waiting for the DVD release of the Unrated editions... ITS HITMAN it has to be R rated or it will be a disgrace to the games... Coming next year Gears of War rated G!!!! lol

A lack of blood is kind of a non-issue; Hitman can be bloodless. However, it can't be not brutally violent; that's the nature of the game. Fox is still going for the R-rating, but Hitman isn't about blood guts in gore. It's about having a target and having the means to get to the target, terminating it, and leave with as little mess and trace as possible. How you terminate the target, however, is up to you. But there were no means of execution that weren't brutal. End of story.

lol. its a movie about one of the most brutal and cold assassins ever. trying to make that PG-13 is ludacris. this is becoming a laughable crap movie project that will fail miserably as long as panzies at fox keeping taking away the artistic freedom of the directors they hire!

ok that's just lame. it exactly what fans want: a bloody hitman movie. The games were bloody, its a great part of them. They had better not ruin the movie completly.

Devilslayer76

Agent 47 has always been violent. If they don't use violence then what?! Use bad language to solve a bad situation?! They should stick with the blood, violence and gore! Thats what makes a good film and I would spend my good money to see it. Let them get a NC-17 rating and let it be done with.

Now after Die Soft we have Spankman. FFS stop this teen bs. We don't want t-rated games and t-rated movies. Too many games, films and whole series have been destroyed by disgusting softness, weakness and lack of blood. For what? Ridiculous censorship to protect the young, weak minds of poor, poor children. Well screw that!

double_decker

Blah, I am sure they will find some way to ruin it, which is why most movies suck now. Have to please the activists after all who aren't smart enough to understand a veiwer rating on games or movies

Again, 20th Fox $@##s up. Just like the vile juvenile MTV trash known as Alien Vs. Predator and Live Free or Die Hard. They dumb it down for the masses and the teenager market (no offense).

Maybe we should all do what TearLachG says to do and instead of watching a movie which involves a man killing people lets all sit around holding hands and hoping for the release of "The Care Bears Jamboree" so that we can all hum in harmony folks ...................... * Cough * YEAH RIGHT * Cough*

To paraphrase a good portion of the comments...'Hitman is all about blood...there has to be a ton of blood....etc.etc.' Have you guys actually PLAYED the Hitman series? Just curious. Blood is messy, in both ways. Blood leaves a mess for Agent 47 to have to clean up. Much more fun to get away without ever being noticed. If you're just going around in the game shooting everyone in sight, then you don't understand the complexity behind the game, to kill of these people without there being any trace that it was a murder so you can just walk right past the guards happy as a clam. Also..'The games are rated M, so the movie must be rated R!!'.....noooot really. The games are rated M because the option is there to be a dumb*** with a gun, going around and shooting everything in sight. Sure, that would make for violence, blood, etc. and need the M rating. Again, if you go around in the shadows, and make the hits look incidental (push of a ledge, poison in the food, whatever) then there is no real need for the M rated content, and could be translated into a PG-13 movie with no problems.

Warfust
Warfust

At least now they say it will remain at R, and it's Hitman....that's like toning down Manhunt....

zombie_hellspaw
zombie_hellspaw

I dont quite understand the point of toning down the film if its still going to get an R rating. The games are all M for mature if I remember correctly so why not target the film at the people who play can actually buy the games and not the kids who trick their parents into buying them for them. I remember tricking my dad into buying me Kingpin and Soldier of fortune, parents aren't always great at seeing through their kids bull ****

they're kiddin right, please let this movie be... i know its a long shot 4 this movie (a video game based movie) to be a good one so at least let it be Bloody n violent , btw timothy dont fit in the role of 47 at all

Paceydre

They are cutting the quality scenes to get a lower rating so more and younger people can watch this movie....and for what? Well, I got one answer to that. It's just to get more money in. Fox is a money whore

It is disgusting and disturbing to me that any of you would want this violent garbage to be shown anywhere, whether it's rated PG, PG-13, or R. Don't you have any respect for human life at all? That you would watch anything that glorifies murder and gore is totally wrong. It's almost as bad as the ancient Romans watching people kill each other for "entertainment". I don't care if what you see isn't real, your mind thinks it is at the time you see it, and it affects you. I don't know what kind of people you are, but just judging from your posts, it totally sickens me that you would want anyone to be exposed to this garbagey Hitman film. I don't care how old you are, you shouldn't see anything like this; it will affect you for the worse no matter what your age is.

Guntrotingidiot
Guntrotingidiot

First of all, making Hitman movie PG-13 doesn't make sense because A; the videogames are all rated Mature. So why are parents bringing little kids to a Mature rated game. It must be R or it's trash. Just like I said with Alien vs. Predator.
