Forza Horizon 4 Getting "Eliminator" Battle Royale Mode

The British countryside gets a little rough-and-tumble.

Forza Horizon 4 is getting a new multiplayer mode that borrows from the battle royale genre. The free update will add a mode called "Eliminator" in which 72 players race to stay within the closing play area and be left the last one driving. It's coming as part of the Series 17 update tomorrow, December 12.

The new mode will take place in an arena set in Britain. You can eliminate other players in head-to-head races to earn upgrades and faster cars, and the arena will slowly contract to force players closer together. It all ends with a final race to determine the ultimate winner. The trailer (below) shows off the mode in action.

Battle royale exploded in popularity thanks to games like PUBG and Fortnite, but we've seen it slowly adopted into non-shooters like Tetris 99. Forza Horizon 4 is the latest example of a game genre that isn't necessarily associated with battle royale adapting those ideas.

Forza Horizon 4 is an open-world game set in Britain, with a season-changing mechanic that makes for new road conditions on a regular basis. GameSpot's review called it "a winning, all-inclusive recipe that celebrates the joy of driving above all else."
