There's a whole new world to explore in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 thanks to the new Fortnite map. On the Fortnite battle royale island, you'll find a ton of sites to explore, new ways to move about the world, and new enemy threats. Here's everything you need to know about the Fortnite Chapter 5 map.

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 map changes

The new map continues a trend of featuring multiple biomes, including grasslands, desert, forest, and a frozen tundra. New named locations can be found in each of these, of course, alongside many smaller landmarks not mentioned on the map and just waiting to be discovered.

Some of the games places of interest (POIs) include Ritzy Riviera, a marina in the west, Rebel's Roost, a mansion in the northern forest, Hazy Hillside atop an alpine village, and the Grand Glacier Hotel, which I will enjoy pretending is The Overlook from The Shining.

Most notably, there's also Reckless Railways, which confirms a recent rumor that the season would include a functional train system, with railroad tracks that sprawl across the island and introduce new ways for you to move about the hostile world. For more private travel, you'll also find the new Trailsmasher SUV parked in spots around the map, which makes for a great off-roading option.

NPCs have returned to the island after a brief stint away in Fortnite OG, and five of them--Oscar, Nisha, Montague, Valeria, and Family Guy's Peter Griffin (yes, really)--act as bosses who drop Society Medallions that grant their wearers a regenerating shield buff at the risk of being marked on the map for other players to hunt down.

Also new to the island are FlowBerries, a new consumable fruit that replenishes shields for both you and your nearby teammates. They also provide a moment of low-gravity jumping, which cancels out fall damage while it's active, much like a Hop Flopper fish.

There's surely many more secrets to uncover, including the locations of all of this season's vaults which house some of the game's best loot. Be sure to check out everything new in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 1 before you drop in.
