Football Manager 2014's new features announced

Developer Sports Interactive confirms that Football Manager 2014 will be released for PC, Mac, and Linux before Christmas 2013.

Sports Interactive and SEGA have announced the details of Football Manager 2014, confirming that the game will be available on Linux for the first time this year.

Like previous versions, Football Manager 2014 will also be available for PC and Mac.

Other headline features of this year's iteration include support for Steam Workshop and cloud saves. Players can also create in-game challenges using the game's new challenge editor.

Sports Interactive says the game will sport an "improved" 3D match engine, alongside "extensive" improvements to the game's technology, and an "enhanced" user interface.

Additionally, the Classic mode introduced last year will see new features.

Sports Interactive have previously said that Football Manager 2013 was the most successful game in the series so far.

No firm release date has been given, but the game will launch before Christmas 2013.

Customers who choose to preorder the game from a participating retailer will gain access to a beta version of the game about two weeks ahead of its launch, with the option to bring careers from the beta into the final game.

GameSpot awarded Football Manager 2013 a score of 8.0 in its review of the game.

I probably won't buy another one until the match engine is, So awesome I cant even tell the difference between its a real game seen from top view or not. because I don't see the point buying it every year, it really is the same game every year. Literally. Which is fine if you havent played an FM before.

If you haven't played a Football manager and you like managing games, buy it, its THE best manager game ever made, period. Its the best of the best regardless of what version you have. However, I have FM 2005 and FM2012 and seriously, its not that different. Which isn't a bad thing, but why buy another one if I already have 2012?

I've supported FM for multiple years, dating back to CM 01/02 and I've stopped purchasing after FM 2011. Post-launch support still sucks, there's nothing done outside of winter transfers.

One of the new features is a very stripy tie apparently.

Football manager was partially responsible for stopping me revising for business studies at A levels. They were awesome years

Still playing Championship Manager '03/04.

It started getting too 'realistic' after that.  I preferred it when teams like Barnet, Scarborough, Margate, Bradford PA and Aldershot flew up the leagues and ended up in the Premiership while Leeds, Chelsea and Arsenal floundered in Division 2 as Norwich, Port Vale, Derby and Wolves bombed into Non-League football.

Still playing and enjoying 2012.  Only real "problem" with this game is that you are paying full price for basically a player/team update and a few tweaks.

I use to buy every other game in the series but i think i'll skip this one and the one after unless they do something drastic to mechanics or gameplay.

Stopped playing this series this year, after about 15 years of buying it every year. They just rehash the same shit every year, they change the interface for no reason, and do "improvements" to the match engine,a match engine which looks like it's from 10 years ago,and has the A.I. of FIFA 98.They should just call it a DLC and sell it for 10$,60 bucks for it is a robbery.

@quiksilvers123 Sarcasm detected. The same way sports fans are baffled at how gaming can be considered a sport, I never understood why people play sports games when they can play sports in real life. I mean I can't slay dragons and shoot cops in real life can I?

@faizanhd And I thought the same about the Street Sweeper Simulator and the train spotting game

@BritishLurker Sure you can! It is fully possible in the physical realm for you to work hard enough to achieve that goal, it only seems out of reach because you set that limitation in your mind. Dragons however are fantasy and games are supposed to be an escape from the real world. Granted, I could technically shoot a cop but that would probably get me killed LOL
