Microsoft has announced that the first official Xbox Live tournament is now under way. On January 7, tournament invitations were sent out to the top 1,500 Xbox Live-ranked NFL Fever 2003 players in order to fill the 64 competition places with the best players who both accepted the invite and were at least 18 years old.

The tournament, which kicks off properly today, is a head-to-head single-elimination event that will continue until the champion has been determined. Prizes for the eventual winner include a football autographed by the game's cover athlete, Peyton Manning; a one-year subscription to Xbox Live; and a copy of NFL Fever 2004 when it becomes available. Similar prizes are also on offer for the runner-up, and every participant will receive an exclusive Xbox Live tournament T-shirt.
