First Madden NFL Screenshot Released, Shows Tattoos

First screenshot for Madden NFL 15 shows Colin Kaepernick and his bicep tattoos.

EA Sports has released the first screenshot for Madden NFL 15, the latest installment in the blockbuster professional football series due out this August for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. In addition to showing off some impressive new visuals, we see that tattoos are finally coming to the series.

The screenshot focuses on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and shows off tattoos on his left and right biceps. Just yesterday, Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers agreed to a six-year, $126 million deal to keep the QB in San Francisco through 2020.

Noted sports video game blogger Pasta Padre writes that before this, the NFL blocked EA from featuring tattoos on players, though it's unclear why.

Madden NFL 15 launches August 26 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. EA is keeping fairly tight-lipped about what this year's game will offer compared to last year's special commemorative entry, Madden NFL 25. However, EA has said that Madden NFL 15 will introduce an "entirely new broadcast presentation" featuring new camera angles and "dynamic pre-game and halftime features." It will also place emphasis on defense.

The annual Madden NFL cover vote is down to two athletes: Cam Newton and Richard Sherman. Voting wraps up tomorrow, and the winner will be announced at a special Los Angeles event later that evening.

One thing that I wish they would change is all the frigging injuries to all my star players. vernon davis gets injured like every time i play online. There always seems to be an injury to my starters but the backups never go down. I think injuries should not even exist when playing online or be very few. There should not be an injury every single game. but lately there is like 4-5 injuries per game and the first injury always come early in the game

i just remember madden 96, i read in a magazine that on the SNES (which i had), you couldn't make out the numbers on the jerseys but on the sega, you could.. i remember being insanely jealous, it's odd i remember that small tidbit of childhood almost 20 years later, i look at these new games and just wonder what in the serious hell is wrong with people, the level of detail is just stupid, and all people do is complain, yo how about a thank you for making all these great games that you enjoy, what are you entitled to anyway? can you even make a game? show me your game, i doubt i'd play it if you paid me, thats the great thing about freedom of choice, you can buy the new madden, or not, or stick that 60 bucks up your ass, let freedom ring

Why does he have the arms of Rick Rude? Kaepernick isn't that jacked.

Tattoos on all players in pro sports? That has to be a developer's nightmare.

I like how EA seem to think the presentation features they're including this year are going to be all new and impressive...

Tell them to go back to NFL 2k5 and have a look at how far ahead 2K were with their game compared to Madden. It just saddens me that a superior product can be bought out of the market by a big corporation who throw their money around in anti-competitive ways.

Yep, totally looks like football.

Nice shot but where's Staley #74 running to? Shouldn't he be blocking someone? Or maybe he's going after Kaepernick? I hope that's not a sign of Madden's AI this year......

"Just yesterday, Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers agreed to a six-year, $126 million deal to keep the QB in San Francisco through 2020."

If he suffers any sort of leg injury, they're really going to regret that.  Running QB's don't last long.

Let me guess...for the next Madden game they've added a few extra blades of grass on the field and put a new number on the box.  They'll market it at E3 this month and call it "a new revolution in sports games".

Did they improve the ignite engine?  Are the WR smarter this time around?  How about any of the A.I. for that matter.  They focus too much on the bull crap and not the actual gameplay like we want.  I don't care about the audience, the walk in, the halftime presentation, I care about the gameplay.

Backbreaker....I miss you.

That's the way they said Madden was going to look like in late 2005...

I will be picking this up for the PS4, I may be the only one excited for a new Madden game but oh well. I also wish they would bring NFL HeadCoach back but I guess I am in the minority on that one too.

As long as this game is not full of rap music, like the new Mortal Kombat X, then it should be o.k.

Do they have the tattoos of the offensive linemen, or coaches, the refs?  If a guy gets a tattoo after the game is released, are they going to put out a patch with the corrected character model?  Do their cleats have Nike swishes on them?  Yep, all important stuff.

Madden games need a new format, this is what I suggest:

Release a new game every 3 years for $60 which includes, new rosters, graphics and physics. And after that a $20 yearly roster updates.

Why don't they spend some time on the opponent AI, to have more balanced game difficulty?  That's the reason I haven't bought a Madden in about a decade.

On easy it's way too easy, then on normal it's too hard.  But not because the computer plays well, but because they have a system to artificially keep the games close, by screwing over sorely needed plays.

Interceptions where the guy runs halfway across the field in an instant?  Yep.  And tons of other disgusting cheap BS plays at critical moments.

I hate that crap.  And you can't fix that problem with the difficulty sliders, there's no "turn off cheap plays" option.

Guess Kaepernick has to spend his up to $126 million with $61 million guaranteed on something, right?

EA Meeting 10 months ago: Guys, should we fix our broken game or give the players tattoos?

Not showing the tattoos was the main reason I don't play this game.  Now I have to think of a new one

Well, it looks a bit better than Madden 25 for the PS4 did, considering they had new tech, I'm wondering why last year's Madden looked so terrible on the new systems

bullsfan769

@rmiller365 NBA games have been doing it for awhile, just takes a lot of effort I think to scan and stuff but EA has been pretty lazy with madden for the past couple of years and its finally nice to see that they're at least doing something that should have been done a while ago.  I know it doesn't really add to the gameplay or anything, it just brings the game a little closer to realism

Tigerbite2
Tigerbite2

@Horndawgie More like where is Kaepernick going to...  Staley could possibly be doing a pull around block and decided to turn around in the process instead of side stepping.  Kaepernick on the other hand, is just running backwards. XD

Ayato_Kamina_1
Ayato_Kamina_1

@jrcast84 Well I've not had a new Madden game since 11 so I think I'm about due one... Skipping the series for years is the only way I can justify buying it. I can't pay $60 every year for an updated roster.

sob2324

@spacecadet25 that is true. i hate when im play against the cpu on all madden. cant make a pass beyond 2 yards to save my life. cant run at all.its like the ai makes no mistakes.

RElKO57

@spacecadet25 have you ever seen a football game? that kind of stuff happens, you know when they say it's incredibly hard to win a game in the NFL? they aren't joking, games really do come down to 2 or 3 game changing plays, those cheap BS plays you describe, sound like the NFL I've always watched.

Thretosix
Thretosix

@spacecadet25 Not sure who to blame more, but it is definitely a combination of Electronic Arts and the NFL.  NFL the non-profit organization, "sold" exclusive rights to EA for some whopping figures.  EA having exclusive rights to making an NFL game decides to milk the same crap year after year.  This is why they don't spend time on anything innovative when making newer Madden games. The loser is the consumer.

Ayato_Kamina_1
Ayato_Kamina_1

@electrichobo99 probably because EA are generally a very lazy company with the mantra that just barely enough changes is enough to justify a new release and then leave it to marketing to say how amazing it is.

They probably designed the PS4 version to be only slightly visually better than the PS3 version. Hence why it looked so unimpressive.
