First look: Wrestlemania X8

THQ unveils the first WWF wrestling game for the Nintendo GameCube.

Comments

THQ recently took the wraps off its upcoming WWF game for the GameCube at its annual editor's day. The game will be called Wrestlemania X8, and it will be the first WWF game to feature wrestlers from the invasion storyline, such as Rob Van Dam, Booker T, Lance Storm, Diamond Dallas Paige, and The Hurricane. Interestingly, the development of Wrestlemania X8 is being handled by Yukes--the same development team behind the Smackdown series--as opposed to Aki, which developed all of THQ's wrestling games for the Nintendo 64. Yukes plans to incorporate around 35 superstars, as well various types of matches, including hardcore, tornado tag, TLC, hell in a cell, and triple threat. There will also be a mode called championship road, in which players can take a rookie up through the ranks of the WWF and all the way to the WWF championship. A create-a-wrestler mode is also planned.

Wrestlemania X8 for the GameCube is scheduled for release this summer.
