Previously, GameSpot News reported on the spin-off from the Suikoden series titled Suikogaiden Vol.1: Swordsman of Harmonia. Today, we've learned that the digital-novel game for the PlayStation is the first of two volumes focusing on a new main character: Nash, a soldier of Harmonia sent to Jowston to investigate a young boy with the special rune (a reference to Suikoden II''s main character). The game is basically a spin-off from Suikoden II, and characters from the RPG such Joey and Nanami will make guest appearances. Characters from the first Suikoden will most likely not make appearances, but about 10 to 15 characters from Suikoden II will definitely appear as guests in the spin-off. No voice-overs will be used in the game. More on Harmonia, the opposing force in Suikoden II, will be revealed in the spin-off as well.

The director of the Suikoden series, Yoshitaka Murayama, commented that "the spin-off will have a different atmosphere with Nash's age range being in his 20s, while the main character in Suikoden II was a teenager. The RPG didn't have dialogues for the main character, but here, Nash will have a lot, showing more of his involvement in the story as well as delving more into his character."

Suikogaiden Vol.1: Swordsman of Harmonia is scheduled for a fall release in Japan.
